You don’t understand Mormonism very well do you? We have sevenbak and DelphiUser giving each other high fives ‘cuz they finally have caught up to the official Sunday School lesson and are on the same one as the rest of the 12,000,000 members worldwide.
The LDS machine tells you what you must teach on any given Sunday no matter what holiday it might be, what country you live in, or what disaster may have befallen your congregation. Any deviation from the “lesson plan” must be corrected as soon a possilbe.
The LDS Church sets rules (guidelines) on how many earrings you may wear, how short your shorts can be, what you may eat or drink, and the exact language of prayer (ye olde english, of course). There isn’t a great deal of diversion among the LDS, and when there is you hear about it. Harry Reid is a prime example. Do a search and see what Mormons think about how he colors outside the lines.
When you say Mormon, you ARE in fact stating where someones posistion probably lies. If their posistion deviates too much, you have someone like me, a Mormon who is ostracized.

This is untrue, CC. The bishop of the ward is responsible for curriculum. As a Sunday School teacher, he instructs me to stick with the curriculum. So, I do.
If the bishop feels that something specific should be taught, he sees to it that it happens.
Additionally, We only spoke about Sunday School. The bishop (or the counselor he designates to do so) decides all the topics for Sacrament meeting. Priesthood and Relief Society are given much freer reign to determine their own curriculum, though they are given resources which are generally used uniformly.
What all this is called is “structure” and “consistency.” It is not “control.”
This reminds me, how do they square not being allowed tea, coffee etc with:
Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]:
Mat 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Mat 15:17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
Mat 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Mat 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
Mat 15:20 These are [the things] which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
High fives?
I do that with my kids, but it’s usually “down low, too slow...”
Our church has a committee that selects and purchases the Sunday School materials. Therefore, we Sunday School teachers are being told what to teach. Heaven forbid! :::Sarc tag in case you need it:::

So what? Lots of churches do that. Try attending an Independent Baptist church some time. (Can't wait to see if you call that a cult too.) If you don't like the rules the church has, don't attend and leave them to their 'rules'.

Likely, but not always, as Mitt's previous position on abortion proves.
