God this turned this common man into someone not-so-common. (And what's wrong w/that?) Anyone that God established a special covenant with is no longer common; but is one set apart.

Agreed, well put!

Yes, there is a verse about Abraham referred to as a prophet (I think it's in Gen. 20).

Yes, verse 7. The Lord Himself calls him His prophet, and tells the king to back off from Sarah or he would die. He then tells him that Abraham would pray over and bless the king and all his household. The Lord has plans for Abraham from the beginning. Abraham didn’t lie either, because Sarah WAS his sister (same Father, different mother) The Lord was watching out for him.

That’s funny, I don’t.

No Trojan horses here.

I have this funny picture in my mind of Mitt rolling up to the WH in a giant Suburban (Mega Mormon Mover) and out pops thousands of LDS missionaries in a modern day miracle not seen since the loaves and fishes. J

An account of Melph. Melph tells of his father's death, learns the truth of Onandagus, rescues his mother, retrieves the plates, uses the gold plates to make gold coins, rebuilds his father's casino, and seals up his father's abridgment of the plates after writing his own final thoughts. Moroni stops into Melph's casino with a heavy bundle, says he is on a long journey to deposit an important record. Melph hides the Three Nephites in his casino. They perform magic tricks disguised as Lamanites. Melph and the Three Nephites become best friends. Melph promises that this book is true, challenges all who read it to roll the dice on its truthfulness.

Gold coins, casino, roll the dice. Premonition of Las Vegas?

So you are a descendent of John D Lee, and I am a descendent of Govoner Boggs, kind of gives us a weird link huh? Cheers

Hey, I’m a descendant of John Taylor, GGG Grandfather in fact. Can I come play?

I'm a descendant of Danish immigrants who settled in an area that was colonized by mormon polygamists who left Utah after the US outlawed polygamy. Of course, the Utah mormons were the leaders in the early days. In reading some history of the mormons of that area, it is documented that the Utah mormons thought they were much better than the johnny-come-latelys and there was strife between the two camps.

So, I'm sure that y'all won't let me come and play so I won't ask. ;)

- I’m shocked that isn’t understood by more who call themselves Christian. The Cross isn’t defeat; it’s the Gift of God.

It’s not the cross that is the gift of God, it is His son, Jesus Christ. His death is crucial to our salvation, not the cross. Christ gave his life of his own will. If he didn’t want it to happen , he could have stopped it (He is and was God after all) but it was according to the will of the Father that He drank from the bitter cup.

He lives, that we might live again!!!

- The mormon disdain of the cross is well known. In the recent "push" by the LDS church to mainstream the religion as Christian, I'm awaiting a revelation instructing all members that the cross is now favored. We will then see the cross adorn the plain steeple of ward chapels and a cross of silver attached to the roofs of temples, (gold being reserved for Moroni). Members could exchange their CTR rings for cross pendants.

There is no disdain for the cross. (Take up your cross and follow me) The LDS celebrate His life and Resurrection, He Lives! This is the central message to the Gospel, that He lives, that He talks to men, loves us as much today as he did in ancient days, and communes with us. For this reason, we don’t have crosses on our churches. To us that is putting His death above His resurrection. His life is central to us.

We don’t have Moroni statues on our Churches, only the temples. This is in reference to John’s revelations about “another angel flying in the midst of Heaven, having the everlasting gospel to be preached to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people.” Cheers

The last talk I gave in Church was about how the Founding Fathers were men of faith.

Hey, me too! About a year ago. These are 2 great quotes I found.

John Adams, our second president, said “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

And in 1863, President Lincoln, in a proclamation to the nation, said these words: “We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth, and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us. “It behooves us, then, to humble ourselves before the Offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.”

Yes, verse 7. The Lord Himself calls him His prophet...

BTW, it's only been in my discussions w/LDS that Gen. 20:7 has even come to the foreground of my attention. (It's not really NOT emphasized in Evangelicalism or Protestantism or Catholicism--at least as far as I've seen). So while we see no value in the PoGP Book of Abraham, since even LDS experts have said that the original from which this was translated was only a funeral document [I remember reading somewhere that JoeSmith translated a "backward E" into about 75 letters w/about 18 or 19 common names]...anyway, I do learn from LDS as I dialogue w/them.

There is no disdain for the cross.

I beg to differ.

We don’t have Moroni statues on our Churches, only the temples.

That is what I specifically said in my post.

If you want to see stares and whispers and finger-pointing, just dare to wear a cross to an LDS church meeting, or even a social event. You might as well have someone ringing a bell shouting, "leper, leper."

To us that is putting His death above His resurrection.

I'm quite sure that Christians don't share your belief.

The deeper one digs into Mormonism, the more one feels the need for a good soapy hot shower and humble session with the Eucahrist!

Reminds me of the Koran. Both are creepy and cause lots of eye rolling.

And then saith the Nephite to the Jaredite and Lamanite and all manner of ites, there awaith thee beyond the Land of Desolation a pot of pureth gold which layeth upon a graven table covered with pureth green felt, with a splendid wheel within another wheel, all haveth little slots within them, by which thou inquireth of thy heavenly father when thou spinneth a small ball of purest white in the spinning wheels.

ROTFL!
