I like Ron Paul as an intellectual force. In Congress or the Senate he may bring more pluses than minuses. In the Executive branch I wonder. Maybe he could be Governor of a small state. President? I doubt it. I think you have it exactly right. He's just the kind of person we want influencing the debate, but probably not the kind of guy you'd want making the final decision.

Agreed, and I put Hunter in the same category. However reasoned Paul's Libertarian approach may appear to the voters who take the time to give it a hearing, it soon breaks down as the details emerge as to whose apple carts will be overturned by his policies. The strong defense and fair trade approach is also appealing to many of those initially nodding up and down at Hunter's remarks until they begin to contemplate the sacrifice and commitment required by these courageous stands.
I will continue to support Hunter for the reason detailed in your comment quoted above. Having said that, I am beginning to sense that a Fred/Mitt ticket is very possible in 2008.
