There is more on Jesse Rameriz.

..........................

With the imposition of a gag order on the case of Jesse Ramirez, I don't expect a lot of new information until after the upcoming June 26 hearing. However, we received the article below from Jason T. Christy, The Church Report, and are publishing it to remind our readers to keep the Ramirez family in your prayers with the hope that the outcome will be far different than that experienced by those who fought for the life of Terri Schiavo.

Gulf War veteran and father, Jesse Ramirez, is in the biggest fight of his life, literally. Ramirez, 36, was hospitalized with serious head injuries after a May 30 car accident. Jesse Ramirez is a devoted father of three children: Justin (17), Kasey (14) and Austin (11). His family says he enjoys spending his time away from his job at the U.S. Postal service playing video games with his children, taking them to movies and sharing stories about his time in the Navy. Jesse has worked tirelessly to keep his family together throughout his twenty-year marriage. According to court documents, Jesses and Rebecca had ongoing marital problems, and at one time, had been separated for as long as five months. Jesse always persevered, though it is reported he often suspected his wife of extra-marital affairs, including May 30th, the day of the near fatal car accident, in which police reports indicate they were arguing again.
On June 8, his wife, Rebecca, 33, told doctors to disconnect his feeding and hydration tubes and move him to a hospice facility, where he would succumb to dehydration. In Arizona, the law allows for critically ill patients to discontinue medical treatment if they wish. In the absence of a living, the law permits the spouse to make these crucial decisions, with the caveat that those decision be in the best interest of the patient.

On June 12, after speaking with Rebecca Ramirez, Jesse's sister, Marlene Ramirez Oliva filed an emergency petition with the court, asking that the feeding and hydration tubes be reconnected pending further medical testing and legal council. The tubes were reconnected on Wednesday and Jesse has been receiving food and hydration since then.

On Thursday, June 13, the next stage of Jesse's fight began- the legal battle. Rebecca Ramirez, the wife, is fighting Jesse's sister and parents and petitioned the court to once again remove the feeding and hydration tubes. The first stage of the ordeal played out in the courtroom of Judge Paul Katz of Maricopa County Arizona on a hot afternoon that was only made hotter by the fierce temperament of the family of Rebecca Ramirez.

After several hours behind closed doors with the attorneys, Judge Paul Katz returned to the courtroom and announced, "I have been advised that (Ramirez) is stable and not conscious and receiving food and hydration by tube, and he will continue receiving food and hydration until further notice of this court." Judge Katz then appointed a guardian ad litem, an advocate for Jesse Ramirez. He then sternly told the families that "none of you can come in here and say you are speaking for God because none of you are. Until we know more, these decisions are not going to me made with the snap of a wrist." The judge set an evidentiary hearing for June 26 and hoped that in the interim the families would come to some arrangement on their own. He also set visitation schedules for the families and ordered that no cameras or recording devices of any kind be allowed in the hospice facility where Jesse is recovering.

After the hearing, Gary McCaleb, the Senior Counsel for the Christian-based Alliance Defense Fund who represents Jesse's sister, said, "Both Jesse and Rebecca are still recovering. Their children deserve a chance for their Dad to recover. The law requires and objective decision to be made. The decision here is simple- let Jesse recover before making a hasty life and death decision." Theresa Ramirez, Jesse's mother, echoed these comments and said that "all we are asking is that Jesse be given more time. He wasn't given enough time to get better. We love Jesse and don't want the hope taken away from us so quickly. Thankfully, he will be getting food and water now and there is hope again."

I check regularly on news about Haleigh and lately there is not much. The only news we have is no news and no news with that DSS bunch sure isn’t good news. But so much spotlight shines on her they don’t dare (I hope) do much dastardly. The paper, The Republican, we can rest assured, will report anything more they do.

Meanwhile we cannot drop our vigilance.

Ah, the true legacy of Michael Schiavo emerges! It’s not all about Living Wills after all, it’s about torturing your spouse to death for fun and profit. Before you know it, we’re going to have picnics and cocktail parties to celebrate pulling the plug on your spouse, or even your live-in bunk buddy. You can just hear the Anointed Class chattering about pulling the plug on Britney Spears, my dear, she was becoming SO uncouth.

Dare we get excited??

According to the Brain Injury Association of America, traumatic brain injury affects more Americans each year than breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, HIV/AIDS and spinal cord injury combined. Academy Award®-nominated director Liz Garbus’ insightful documentary COMA explores the mysteries of the injured brain and its ability to heal when the exclusive HBO presentation debuts TUESDAY, JULY 3 (9:00-10:45 p.m. ET/PT). Giving voice to people whose quality of life and very existence have been threatened, the special goes inside a top U.S. medical facility for the treatment of head trauma and follows four coma survivors over the course of a year.

In the wake of the Terri Schiavo media spectacle and the "awakening” of Terry Wallis from a minimally conscious state after 19 years of silence, Garbus strives to find answers away from the glare of the media. With unprecedented access to the Center for Head Injuries at the JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ, she chronicles the emotional stories of four families for one year, looking through the eyes of their renowned physicians and neuropsychologists, led by Dr. Joseph Giacino and Dr. Caroline McCagg. COMA debuts nationwide Tuesday, July 3rd at 9:00p.m., only on HBO!

Sounds good. Too bad it’s HBO (or maybe I should reserve that judgment till we know what’s in the film!) If they do their job, they will show that medicine has been making progress in treating head injuries and that the future is full of new promise. The death merchants, in the meantime, don’t want you to know that there is hope for your condition. They want to kill you using obsolete medical definitions. And they want to do it fast — before you learn that tomorrow will bring better therapy, better medication and quite possibly even a cure.

Wagglebee thread on scary folks in New Hampshire...

Manchester, NH (LifeNews.com) -- A YMCA official who took students at a public middle school to an abortion center has been forced to resign by the community agency. The students were part of an at-risk program YMCA coordinates with the Manchester school district and they were taken to Planned Parenthood without their parents knowing.

Harold Jordan, the YMCA's president, told the Associated Press that employee Joyce Palmer, the group's community outreach director, has admitted she was wrong to take the students to an abortion business.

Ping to another wagglebee thread, this on the effects of Roe v. Wade, countering more lies with facts...

The abortion debate usually centers on the morality of the act itself. But liberalizing abortion rules from 1969 to 1973 ignited vast social changes in America. With the perennial political debate over abortion again consuming the presidential campaign and the Supreme Court, it might be time to evaluate what Roe v. Wade has meant in practical terms.

One often misunderstood fact: Legal abortions just didn't start with Roe, or even with the five states that liberalized abortion laws in 1969 and 1970. Prior to Roe, women could have abortions when their lives or health were endangered.

Did I read that little font right? DOBSON CAVING ON PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION? Who got to Dobson? Who is he supporting for president. Sounds like a quid pro quo if that indeed was Dobson’s statement.

>> Well, we can see what spouse tried to do with Scott Thomas

Didn't she get Scott with a baseball bat in the first place, and then tell police he tripped over the family pooch?

In Terri developments, we finally have a reason to consider that there may have been some truth in Michael Schiavo's extremely odd story about Terri collapsing. That stuff he said about: I was just getting out of bed "for some reason" when I heard a THUD. Or, I was awakened by a THUD. Criminal denial, most likely; nevertheless oddly explained and phrased. Mark Fuhrman, the detective, doped that Michael saw Terri go down. Maybe both were possible -- after Michael asphyxiated or smothered her ON THE BED.

It is fairly common for strangulation / asphyxiation victims to SEEM to recover, then just keel over dead -- even hours later! This could even explain the puzzling time sequence and any gap between the time he said he got home and the collapse. We don't have to deal with the spectre of Terri lying there on the floor in cardiac arrest for some long period.

Polybius, the Freeper radiologist, affirmed ("you betcha!") that it was perfectly possible for Michael to asphyxiate her by getting on her back, and even easier if he did it right in the bed (instead of the hallway floor), forcing her face into the bedding. Neither external bruising nor petechiae would be likely from this. Terri had an apparent spinal cord injury around C4 which was singled out for mention in her ER discharge papers and was closely examined by Dr. Hammesfahr in his court-ordered tests a dozen years later. Michael's hand on her neck could have accounted for that.

Haleigh Poutre update...

Looks like once more we can count on The Republican for being vigilant.

SPRINGFIELD - The defense lawyer for Jason D. Strickland has filed a motion to dismiss the child abuse case against his client, saying the state does not have enough evidence to try the man for the injuries to Haleigh Poutre.

Haleigh Poutre, Strickland's step-daughter, was left hospitalized with a brain injury on Sept. 11, 2005.

Haleigh, now 13 years old, is in a Boston rehabilitation hospital. Her case gained national media attention and has triggered a continuing debate in Massachusetts about how the state handles child welfare responsibilities.

Stand by for another hard hitting article by Helen Valois in RenewAmerica

Yesterday, I was looking over a petition that arrived as an insert in our copy of National Right to Life News. It is addressed to the GOP top brass, asking them to see to it that the Party nominate a candidate for President who respects the platform plank protecting innocent human life. This is a commendable effort, and clearly a necessary one. One cannot help, however, feeling more than miffed that its source is the very organization that has done the most to reduce the pro-life movement to a mere tool of party politics in the first place, ushering in the "Crisis of '08" as we see it shaping up today.

Where does the attitude that compromise is the way to go come from, anyway? Which group was it that cut the legs out from under the American pro-life effort at its very inception, by insisting that abortion is "not a religious issue" and that we cannot — even, should not — address ourselves to the underlying crises of promiscuity and contraception as well? National Right to Life charted out the parameters of the ideological quicksand called "compassionate conservatism" long before George W. Bush gave that mentality a name and a face, and was able to demonstrate to the country — when Terri Schindler-Schiavo died while he and his brother looked serenely on — exactly what it means when the rubber hits the pro-life road. To attack the life issues problem without mentioning God is to adopt the equivalent of W's ambivalent approach to the war on terror. It's like taking on the "insurgents" in Afghanistan and Iraq while refusing to control our own borders at the same time.........................................................

Elsewhere in the world...

Around a quarter of patients in an acute vegetative state when they are first admitted to hospital have a good chance of recovering a significant proportion of their faculties, and up to a half will regain some level of consciousness, researchers from Belgium found out. Another study shows that around 40% of patients were wrongly diagnosed as in a vegetative state, when they in fact registered the awareness levels of minimal consciousness. Comparing past studies on this issue shows that the level of misdiagnosis has not decreased in the last 15 years. These studies should foster debate about appropriate standards of care for these patients, and about end of life limitations, experts said at the European Neurological Society Meeting in Rhodes (Greece).

The profoundly difficult moral and medical issues associated with patients in a vegetative state have been recently highlighted by the case of Terri Schiavo in the United States. Experts disagreed on the right response to her condition. With her eyes wide open, the characteristic that distinguishes the vegetative state from coma, it was clearly impossible for some of her family members to believe she was unconscious. Doctors addressing the 17th Meeting of the European Neurological Society from June 16 to 20 in Rhodes (Greece) stress however that the vegetative state in a significant proportion of patients admitted to intensive care may be transitory, and that there is a wide range of possible recovery scenarios, depending on the type of brain injury. A complementary study shows that assessment by medical teams of a patient's actual state of consciousness continues to be surrounded by confusion and false diagnosis, experts reported at the ENS Meeting.

High rate of misdiagnosis in patients in an acute vegetative state

Jesse Ramirez update...Looks like so far the Judge Greer forces have not reached this judge!

News is sparce on Mr. Ramirez's updated condition.

Friends and coworkers of a Chandler man at the center of a court battle over whether he should remain on life support say that he is responsive to his surroundings and should be moved to a hospital. Jesse Ramirez was seriously injured in a car accident on May 30, and 10 days later, his wife Rebecca ordered that his food and water tubes be disconnected and that he be moved from the hospital to a hospice so that he could die. Within days, Ramirez' parents and siblings appealed to a Maricopa County Superior Court judge, who in turn, ordered that Jesse remain on life support pending a thorough investigation by a court-appointed guardian.

Judge Paul Katz forbade the feuding family members and their attorneys from talking to the media and scheduled an evidentiary hearing for Tuesday. The guardian is expected to make a report to the court after talking to both sides of the family and after reviewing medical records.

Friends: man in life support battle is responsive

Media bias??

Thread by wagglebee on New York Daily News...

NEW YORK, June 14, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The New York Daily News (NYDN), the sixth largest newspaper in the United States, uses a set of writer guidelines that promote abortion through their choice of language.

The NYDN writing requirements promote an anti-life mindset by instructing writers to avoid certain words when dealing with the abortion issue. The words "pro-life" and "pro-lifers", for example, must be replaced with "abortion foes", "abortion opponents" or in the case of constricted title space, "abort foes".

The pro-abortion bias is even more evident in the fact that NYDN writers may only include the positive terms "pro-life" and "pro-lifers" in direct quotations.

Thread by wagglebee on an Archbishop...

"Where human life is as risk, we cannot afford to be timid," he said.

"If Americans truly want to restore respect for human life today then we need to demand from our leaders and from ourselves nothing less than the tearing down of the wall of injustice and oppression created by Roe v. Wade," he told the audience.

Naumann said he is not just hopeful but confident that the pro-life movement will ultimately see victory and that legal protection for the unborn will be restored.
