It’s also illegal in Texas. State law says that if you have water surplus to your own survival needs and someone asks you for water, you *must* give it to them.
It would also be another offense - failure to stop and render aid.
There is no reason any man under your command should die of thirst if you have water available....
The guide should be prosocuted for manslaughter.....
I don’t care if the idiot pressed on or not....
Wow... he could have been in a radio contest and had all the water he wanted for free.
Try Parris Island in July and August some time.
95-105 degrees at 100% humidity. Actually, jungle gear will keep your skin cool in those conditions.
If that cat had been wearing a long sleeved cotton, flannel shirt, he would have not dehydrated or gotten so hot so fast. The sweat absorbed by the cotton keeps the skin cool and reduces the dehydration rate.
Makes sense to me. My son has been working on his wilderness survival merit badge. For each trip they were required to bring a certain amount of water.
If one of their clients didn't survive, they're not doing a good job of teaching survival.
They all should have failed the course for not recognizing signs of impending death. Then the people who run the course could charge them again to take it over.
So they get to stab sheep to death? Wow, what a neat trip. Sounds like the idiots running the place should get an animal cruelty charge thrown in.
Set me loose on Rodeo Drive with an American Express Platinum card and a bottle of Perrier...now THAT’s survival!;)
“During the early phase of the expedition, participants can drink water at the source only and cannot carry it with them.”
Bunch of stupid asses. At what point in “immersing” ones self in mother natures “embrace” does one drink water and then move on WITHOUT filling a canteen with water for later.
In Texas it would be. To bad you would walk right pass him with your bottle of water.
"The only thing necessary to insure the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" - Edmund Burke (1729-1797)
Practice what you preach.
In a desert environment, that would include traveling by night, escpecially if there is a lack of available water.
It's not the first time that has happened."
LOL!
No kidding. Water is probably the one thing that one can’t “acclimate” to the lack of to any appreciable degree. The body starts to conserve salt at some point, but that’s about it. The old maxim “ration your sweat, not your water” is recognition of this.
Eating food is important as well. That’s the “electrolyte” part they are talking about. Empty stomach means the water just runs through, along with electrolytes.
I gotta wonder if they were even treating the water they were allowed to drink. Unless it’s a spring, most of the desert water supplies are chock-filled with intestinal bugs and bacteria, viruses, golly knows what.
These sorts of things take a couple weeks to manifest themself, well after “vacation” is over.
For that I am not going to apologize for the next storm headed your way. Ha Ha...
Used to live in that gulf coast muck...now I live in the intermountain west...I know what you mean...The Steambath down there...
I never travel without spare water. Ever.
I have to wonder about the guides. They should at least have Wilderness EMT training. If so, they should have recognized his condition and done something about it. If not, they should be facing some charges.
Absolutely. I’d rather run a mile in the mountains at 90 degrees with a 40 lb pack than walk around the block in the heat and humidity of the deep south.
I suppose a lot of it depends upon the climate and elevation you’re used to. I hosted a group of cycling friends from Milwaukee up in the hills here (~9000 ft) who challenged this old fat fart to a footrace up a hill. For beer. Winner’s choice. LOL. They all petered out about a hundred yards up. Oxygen, don’t leave home without it. The Samuel Adams was wonderful.
I dont have my brother anymore because no one would give him water.
I’d say you don’t have your brother anymore because he was stupid.
