A senior from a Texas high school will not be going to his graduation ceremony after designing 3D levels of his school in a shooting game.
Officers came into his home and reportedly found five swords which they deemed a level 3 terrorist threat. Since then, the unnamed man had been transferred to an "alternate education facility"

Isn’t that the game where they end up in hell, and the game continues?
Our gun club did a scenario that had a Beslan-like school takeover by terrorists. We had to figure out the best way to take them down with minimum “casualties.” Sometimes the good guys (and girls) might have a reason for modeling a school.
I’m going to have to check the maps site I know of for my job now.
*wincing*
The morons are running the asylum. If I were the parents, I would be looking for a sharktoothed lawyer .
George Orwell...calling George Orwell.....please pick up the courtesy phone.
The guy with the biggest fin on his back usually wins, yes.
1. After VT the school administrators are in panic mode. This is also known as the precautionary principle, which is where we got all our current gun laws.
2. Making a map of your school in a first person shooter AND distributing it at this time is STUPID. This does not defend the schools actions, but this kid was stupid and deserved to be smacked down.
3. After Breslin, plans of schools SHOULD be classified on a need to know basis. Denying operational intelligence to the bad guys is always a good idea. While little johnny may be a sweet innocent (STUPID) kid, someone suffering from SJS does not need the edge of knowing where all the good hiding places are.
Yeah they over reacted, but the threat is real.
Bingo! My first initial reaction....
I used to work with a kid who was a computer geek who told me he had edited some game into a model of our factory. I never really gave it any thought. He edited Resident Evil characters into his game.
I’m less concerned about the kids making these games than I am who gets access to them.
yes...
5-10 years from now this kid will be designing levels for the Next Big Game.
Remember not too long ago when a whole spate of movies had plot lines involving either kids taking over a school or engaging in some manner of slapstick battle with armed gunmen in school settings.
Here’s the one that jumped to mind - soon to be censored due to “highly controversial subject matter”:

Toy Soldiers (1991)

Billy Tepper is the leader of a group of rebellious guys at The Regis School. He has already been expelled from three prominent private schools. His best friend, Joey Trotta, is the son of the Head of the New York Mafia; Billy, all their friends and many other kids at the school have equally influential and prominent, if more law-abiding, parents. When Luis Cali’s father is put in jail, he heads for the Regis school to put theson of the judge in charge of the case under hostage, only to find he has been removed. However, once he realises who the parents of the rest are, he decides the entire student body of the Regis school would be an even better bargaining chip.
Mine too.
Bingo. The mall would have been teh gay.
I wanted to mod my town in a Battlefield game. It would be kind of cool. As a kid, I used to make my own maps for units in the various SDI games I played.
This kid meant no harm I am sure and there people need to get a life. I would LOVE to read the actual letter sent to the parents condemning an obviously clever kid to the hell of the loser, I mean alternative, school with all the preggos and druggies.
Sheesh. My daughter wants to get into gaming as a career. If she models our house should I expect the Umbrella Corporation to come through my window?
True.
What, are we operating re-education Gulags now?
Ooh, Resident Evil. (applauds)
but if the kid did the program on a school computer and it was left there ....
What would YOU think if you found a shooting game on your son's or daughter's computer and your home was the floorplan?
I’ve dropped tactical nukes from an F/A18 in simulation. Good thing I’m not in High School. You can’t have any fun nowadays.
Anybody remember “Detention” with Dolph Lundgren?
