Here it is, the "Hate Crimes Bill" that was introduced in Jan 2007 by Sheila Jackson-Lee. It has been reported to the floor of the House as of April 30, so is now technically HR 1592 RH.I'm waiting to hear back from my congressman's office about when it is to be voted on, but acc to house.gov, it's on for Thursday -- listed simply as HR 1592.

I've not found much about this on FR; only these:
Critics See 'Slippery Slope' in Reintroduced Federal 'Hate Crimes' Bill -- 1/16/07 http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1768409/postsand 'Hate Crimes' Bill Moving to Full House -- 4/26/07 http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1823843/posts
Please add keywords "hatecrimesbill" and "HR1592" if you find or post any other articles; thanks.
The claims made in the Findings section are especially interesting and rather curious, showing what our representatives believe about this country that requires them to spend time on this bill. The "short title" (lol) for this bill is the `Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2007' ... AS IF making another law will result in prevention of violence.
There are many more articles about this deplorable bill that will have a ripple effect as sordid as the McCain-Feingold CFR. Call your elected this morning....we don't need laws governing what boils down to good manners.
Your first link points out:
WASHINGTON Supporters of expanding hate crime law to include acts of violence against gays and lesbians scored a surprise win in the House, boosting their hopes on an issue repeatedly blocked in Congress. With the help of 30 Republicans, House Democrats on Wednesday pushed through a measure that would add sexual orientation, gender and disability to protections covered by federal hate crime law.
Don't say it can't happen here.
The 56th Annual National Day of Prayer will take place Thursday, May 3, 2007.The theme for this year is "America, Unite in Prayer" and is based on the verse from II Chronicles 7:14 which states:
"If my people, who are called by my name,
will humble themselves and pray
and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways,
then will I hear from heaven
and will forgive their sin
and will heal their land."
Here is the phrase to use when hate crime bills come up:
When you give special protections to any group, you discriminate against everyone else.
Congress critter ping!
