I just purchased Talapia frozen from China at Ingles Supermarket in North Carolina. It says it’s frozen by a carbon dioxide process (rather than a nitrogen process) which USA normally uses. I don’t know what that means to us, the consumers.

I read here that they have been feeding pigs with a melanmine (sp) ingrediant in North Carolina, a big pig raising state. When I asked the 18 year old worker, he knew nothing about it, although he said 2 other shoppers had asked him about it that day. According to articles here, they don’t know if it’s damaging to humans although they estimate that 4000 pets have lost their lives because of this additive. (It substitutes for protein, which they can advertise and boost their protein content.) We lived in Michigan during the 70’s-80’s when fire retardent was added to cow meal. When the cows wouldn’t eat it, molasses was added to make it attractive to cows. For years, the supermarkets had to advertise that their beef cows came from Texas or some other state and it caused some deaths and physical harm to farm families raising cattle who didn’t realize they were buying retardent-enhanced and then Molasses enhanced feed for their cattle.

Science Diet has had canned and dry food recalled due to melemine contamination.

All manner of “premium” pet food has been affected by this recall.

How does it feel to pay top dollar for shoddy Chinese ingredients?

Baby steps against companies expensing the American People for Profit!! Bad part is this is a ‘staple’ ingredient and pretty hard to avoid. I make all my own bread—guess I will have to grind my own flour. Globalization is so good for the American people.

Top News:

The smoking gun of melamine spiking found.

Biggest news out of the FDA since “16 dead.” This time FDA reports 4,150 pets reported dead. Will the mainstream media pick up on this?

Also, FDA begins blocking all untested Chinese vegetable protein. A move rare in its breadth, according to USA Today.

Melamine spiking widespread and going on for at least 15 years in China.

It also happened in the US.

38 chicken farms fed tainted pet food back in February.

>FDA confirmation [?] of 1950 deaths of cats and 2200 deaths of dogs
"As of April 26, 2007, FDA had received over 17,000 consumer complaints relating to this outbreak, and those complaints included reports [!] of approximately 1950 deaths of cats and 2200 deaths of dogs"

Why do you say stuff
like that without a hot link?
Do you think Freepers

won't know the difference
between them getting "reports"
and "confirmations?"

Geez, Louise! Calm down!

why would they deliberately feed fire retardant to cattle?

did they have a problem with spontaneous cattle combustion?

The contamination is widespread and the FDA has no clue as to where it will lead,

As of April 26, 2007, FDA had collected approximately 750 samples of wheat gluten and products made with wheat gluten and, of those tested thus far, 330 were positive for melamine and/or melamine related compounds. FDA had also collected approximately 85 samples of rice protein concentrate and products made with rice protein concentrate and, of those tested thus far, 27 were
positive for melamine and/or melamine related compounds. FDA’s investigation has traced all of the positive samples as having been imported from China.

“Detention Without Physical Examination of all Vegetable Protein Products from China”...that makes it sound like they’re shipping a couple hundred tons of won ton noodles down to Gitmo to be held as enemy combatants.

"I just purchased Talapia frozen from China at Ingles Supermarket in North Carolina."

On 4-26-2007 the state of Alabama banned the import and sale of Talapia and catfish from China. It contains an antibiotic that has been banned which causes some disease in humans. I'll see if I can locate the article I posted about it.

From what they're saying, they've only recalled Prescription Diet m/d dry cat food and Savory Cuts canned cat food which was the only product that contained slightly contaminated wheat gluten, and represented less than 1% of their sales, and they're conducting their own testing.

“Too little, too late. What if it had been babies dying?”
How do we know that babies aren’t dying?

I wonder where the protein additives for baby formula come from? Why is there a rise in autism? Just a thought.

Did you know the fish was from China when you bought it? Frozen fish is nasty, no matter where it comes from. If you have ever eaten truly fresh fish you can never eat any thing less.
