Democrats Conceding on War Bill (Reid, Pelosi Folding as They Finally Begin to Realize Their Folly)

Democratic leaders in Congress are slowly backing down from a standoff with the White House over tying war funding to a troop-withdrawal timetable, saying they can use other bills to confront President Bush on Iraq.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, is courting Republican support for compromise war-funding legislation to follow Mr. Bush's promised veto this week of a $124 billion bill that would start a pullout as soon as July.

Senior Democratic aides say that although House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is not similarly talking to Republicans about a post-veto agreement, she privately acknowledges that eventually the "money will get to the troops without timetables."

"Probably a weakening of is what is going to happen," said an aide close to Mrs. Pelosi, California Democrat.

emergency war-funding bill, which would pay for the war in Iran and Iraq until Sept. 30

Since when are we at war with Iran? Isn't Nancy planning a visit with Wackmeanajob?

Why would Pelosi and Reid back down? The reason may be that they are loosing the swing voters. For the last few years, elections have been decided by swing voters, those who tend to be undecided, moderate and like to stay in the middle.

Thus the phase, "We support the Troops", but not support the war is meant to keep the swing voters on there side. However, President Harry Reid's outburst that the war is lost and his and Nancy's threats to stop funding the troops has undermined that delicate position.

Harry and Nancy must now back down, but they will be back. Like the radical anti-war liberals they are, they think that they can leave the field of battle without a bloodbath. They forgot Vietnam and the Cambodian massacers there democratic predecessors left them. They have forgotten the reason why the American people don't trust them.

They don't understand why Senator John Kerry's statement "I was for the 87 billion, before I was against it" and why that is so devastating to their party. It is because swing voters see the equivocation and don't trust it. If they had, John Kerry would be the President of the United States right now, and "Let them go Naked" Theresa would be first lady.

This is a distinction without a difference.

We would still have U.S. policy telling the enemy when we quit.

Yes, I saw that. It was a great story and I guess they didn’t want to give God credit for keeping him on straight and narrow.

They concede nothing, their objective has been met.

They wanted to tell the enemy, “we sympathize with you”, "continue your suicide bombings, please, and we will be out shortly". And thankyou very much.

At the same time they told Americans “you lost the war, now don’t ever try anything like this again”, “from now on let the UN take care of us”.

All they really had to do was tell the President that, unless the Iraqi government met certain benchmarks, they will de-fund the war next time a supplemental is requested. Same effect without the hysteria.

So the democrap goal is to reduce sectarian violence and establish a militia-disarmament program while their strategy is to limit our military’s combat operations and stop searching for terrorists.

Typical head-straight-up-the-rectum thinking of the Party of the Criminally Insane.

Rasmussen has a poll this week that shows a solid majority of americans either want to pull troops out NOW, or with a definite time-table.

Bush has got, once again, to get off his behind and explain to the American People why getting out now is stupid, and why timetables are antithetical to war. He can quote Senator James Webb about that second part, in his election last year he said it was stupid to set timetables, that anybody who thought you could set a timetable for withdraw didn’t understand war.

Of course, James Webb voted for the timetable. What that means about his understanding of war I leave to the reader.

Lampson was a coward, and did not vote.

Thanks for the information.

I thought he had.

A non-vote is a 'yes' as far as I am concerned.

I can't wait to get rid of that guy.
