Nuclear terror – 'very real threat'
World Net Daily ^ | April 30, 2007 | Joseph Farah

Lost in all the coverage of the Virginia Tech tragedy were the sobering words of Vice President Dick Cheney about a calamity facing America that will dwarf anything it has ever experienced as a nation.

Characterizing it as "the greatest threat we face," Cheney once again raised the ugly specter of nuclear terrorism against the U.S. "It's a very real threat," he said, "something that we have to worry about and defeat every single day." Tying the warning to politicking over Iraq war policy, he said a precipitous withdrawal from that country by U.S. military forces would invite and encourage the terrorists to follow Americans home. "The fact is that the threat to the United States now of a Sept. 11 occurring with a group of terrorists armed not with airline tickets and box cutters, but with a nuclear weapon in the middle of one of our own cities, is the greatest threat we face," he said.

Coupled with this grave caution was another development that occurred under the media radar screen.

The U.S. Department of Energy announced it will donate radiation detectors to Mexico and help install them in busy seaports to prevent a terrorist attack with a nuclear weapon or "dirty bomb."

Why does the U.S. consider ports of entry into Mexico a national security threat to America?

Because, increasingly, Mexico receives cargo ships from China destined for the U.S. cargo is unloaded in Mexico and transported by land to the U.S. – mostly by trucks getting a free pass at the border thanks to the NAFTA superhighway plans.

Meanwhile, however, America's own ports are unable to screen the overwhelming number of cargo containers entering the country directly because of the sheer volume of imports.

I wonder how long it’ll take for dems to realize that if the terrorists are going to use a nuke they’re going to target a city, such as NY...and the vast majority of democrat voters are in cities...such as NY. If the dems continue to ignore the truth it’s quite possible that their chances of winning any elections will be decreased once a city or two disappears. I hope it never happens, but as they say, it’s more a matter of when than if.

The Mexicans will love that. When they find nukes they can ask for really big bribes to allow the cargo to pass.

The Romans didn’t have the Free Republic nor the Holiday Inn Express for that matter.

It still ticks me off that the Hollywierdos changed Clancy’s plot in the movie and made the terrorists “right winged extremists” instead of keeping the jihadis in the book.

Watched the first season of “Sleeper Cell” tonight.
Terrific show in all senses of the word and really makes you think.

A nuclear attack on the U.S. (by Iran) is not just a threat, but is very real and "on countdown" mode IMHO....it's only a matter of time and is very scary...this from the book "Epicenter" by Joel Rosenburg...

(Quote)"With Iran's countdown to the apocalypse, the stakes could not be higher.

Were Iran to smuggle nuclear bombs across the Mexican border, for instance, entire American cities would be vulnerable to cataclysmic terrorist attacks with little or no warning. Experts say the blast from a single ten kiloton nuclear bomb in Washington, DC, for example, would destroy everything within a half mile of ground zero, contaminate 3,000 to 5,000 square miles with toxic levels of radiation, and kill 300,000 people within a matter of minutes."(/Quote)

Mr. Rosenburg goes on to say...

(Quote)"With a similar bomb detonated in the heart of Times Square in New York City, a leading expert on nuclear terrorism says, "The blast would generate temperatures reaching into the tens of millions of degrees Fahrenheit. The resulting fireball and blast wave would instantaneously destroy the theater district, the New York Times building, Grand Central Terminal, and every other structure within a third of a mile of the point of detonation. On a normal workday, more than half a million people crowd the area within a half mile radius of Times Square. A noon detonation in midtown Manhattan could kill them all. Hundreds of thousands of others would die from collapsing buildings, fire, and fallout in the ensuing hours. The electromagnetic pulse generated by the blast would fry cell phones, radios, and other electronic communications.(/Quote)

I am very very afraid for the future of our children and grandchildren...

Oh my God! The New York Times Building? We need to step up our diplomacy and make nice with these people!

I know a lot of people like to joke about "liberal strongholds", and that's fine....I've thought the same thing myself..."no big loss....it's the NY Times" right?....However, when you stop to think of the magnitude of the loss of life, it really isn't funny. I don't care how liberal someone is, nobody would deserve to be "incinerated" in this manner...

I hate to say this, but a nuclear detonation in the USA is the only way this country is going to finally wake up to the real threat of Islamic fascism to the world.

I thougth for a minute after 9/11 we had finally woken up. But we rolled over and the liberal demorats continue to hit the snooze button.

Only after one or more cities are destroyed will we finally take the gloves off and fight this war as it should have been fought after 9/11. NO MORE PC BS. You are either with us or against us. Then we can unlease the dogs of war on these sick b_stards like Amajenadad.

I pray everyday for our country and leaders to wake up, but I am afraid it is already too late.

I totally agree with your post 100 percent...a lot of people today have the attention span of a nanosecond...and less than that if what's happening in the world doesn't involve them directly...something has to change...I don't have the answer...I wish I did...but I think we're all in deep trouble right now...

It was started in 2005. I rented it on Netflix. I think any large video outfit will sell or rent the DVD's. I'm not sure that any channel is carrying it now.
