I think "technically" is the wrong word here.

Upon further reflection, I've decided maybe "virgin" isn't the right word here. I think maybe "fool" would substitute accurately ... as in "a fool and her money are soon parted."

I hate to say it but for these young women parting with some money and then a lie to the groom are better than the alternative, being up to their necks in a pit with stones raining down on their heads.
