PESHAWAR: Suspected militants shot dead two Pakistani men accused of spying for US troops in neighbouring Afghanistan, police said on Sunday.
The bodies of two men, aged about 30, were found early Sunday by paramilitary soldiers near Khirgi checkpost in the northwestern town of Jandola which borders the South Waziristan tribal district, local police official Omar Hayat said.
A note found with the bodies read "they were spying for Americans. They were involved in fake currency business and were enemies of 160 million Pakistani people."
The pair were shot in the head and one also had knife cuts on his throat, Hayat said.
"We have identified the dead men and informed their families and the bodies were kept at the main police station in the adjoining town of Tank," he said.
Several tribesmen have been shot dead or beheaded this year for allegedly spying for US-led forces in Afghanistan or supporting Pakistan's campaign against al-Qaeda and other militants in the rugged area.
Key US ally Pakistan has deployed some 80,000 troops to hunt down Taliban and al-Qaeda fighters who are believed to have sneaked into the tribal terrain after the fall of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan in late 2001.
Islam turned on itself sometime back, but the process seems to be accelerating.
What a hustle! Don’t like your neighbor. American Spy...Kill him.
But any such action on the part of US aligned forces would meet with swift derision in the NYTimes where they can only countenance the beheadings of US citizens.
What we need is a young, Uzbek (or better yet, somewhat local Pastun) full of ambition, charismatic, mean sumb*tch, with huge balls to direct our own counterinsurgency within the Stan/Pak border region.
Give him all the gold he wants.....in exchange for HUMINT he provides.....
Dragging out a number of these HVTs (UBL/Zawahiri included but not the only two) is vitally important for our success in this WOT (Not to mention the PR wave which is without question needed currently).
An excellent way to start a blood feud, actually. To some “militants” it is enough to accuse a tribal member of spying for the U.S. The tribes don’t see it that way, they see the accusation as compounding the sin of murder, not excusing it, especially if it is offered without proof.
--Exactly.
Ping...
The troubled eastern provinces along the Pakistan border are known to be home to insurgents from the Taliban and other militant groups.
In neighboring Kunar province, the coalition said Sunday five militants including a key organizer identified as Habib Jan were killed in an operation a week ago.
A weapons cache was found along with "documents suggesting coordination with at least one international terror leader," it said without elaborating.
Habib is a SOB we have been after on an tactical level (in that AO) for some time - We've known about this SOB for quite a while.
Thank you sir
