Tanker truck explosion caused part of the upperdeck of the maze approaching the Bay Bridge to collapse.
Watch live coverage starting at 7 a.m. on NBC11
What was initially reported to the California Highway Patrol as a fire at around 3:42 a.m. Sunday quickly escalated to an explosion and roadway collapse on roadway that connects eastbound Interstate Highway 80 to eastbound Interstate Highway 580, according to a California Highway Patrol dispatcher.
WATCH LIVE VIDEO
According to the dispatcher, the roadway was destroyed after a tanker caught on fire and exploded, causing the driver to suffer second degree burns.
The tanker was under the overpass.
Chopper11 showed at least two sections of the maze collapsed.
The dispatcher said there is no word on when the roadway will be open and it could be days if not months before traffic resumes as usual on this stretch of road.
Stay with NBC11 and NBC11.com for continuing coverage of this breaking story.
Ahhh..ok.. For a second I thought you meant two separate incidents. Bad enough as it is..
I love the smell of a semantics fight in the morning.
That was my first thought as well!
Well both roadways are elevated, making them both technically “overpasses”, even if the bottom one only overpasses mud flats.
Probably right, LOL. Will be a headache but he is savvy about traffic and if it is too bad, he will just work from home.

I should have included this in my other post to you. This is from the article it tells you that this happened in CA on hwy 80 and 580 interchange. It would seem obvious it is the CA bay area since the CA highway patrol are the ones who responded and they don't usually go to Mass or some other state when some disaster occurs, just my thoughts on the subject.
*sigh* I'm just grateful that they haven't brought in the CO2 emissions from the fire. Yet.
A tanker truck blew up Friday morning in Houston at 59 south ramp leading to I-10. Driver dead with vehicle.
I never did hear what his load was. Something from the petrochemical industry here I believe.
It is supposed to shut down the ramp for 2 months while they inspect its structure.
If it was deliberate, it was probably the Oakland Chamber of Commerce.
It happens out here in no-where land too, it just doesn’t make the news.
See post #8 for picture.
We were taught that the first paragraph should contain the who, what, why, where and when of the story. The reason being so that a person could read that paragraph, get the gist of the story and then read on if they so chose.
Nowadays stories are written with a "hook". They give you leading statement or question to get you to read the story. I understand it was only two sentences later but I am used to reading a news story and expecting that info in the first paragraph.
By the way, not everyone knows where the "Bay Bridge" is even if you know they are talking about CA. Assuming they do smacks of arrogance.
If this was in the LA area, it would be fixed in weeks.
In the Gay Pervert and PC Bay area, every politically correct group in the Bay area will want a % of the repair bill with job quotas for every perverted group mooching off tax payers in the Bay area.
It took years after the last big Bay area earthquake to get roads in this area fixed and LA had their roads, bridges and exits spans fixed in months if not weeks after their last big quake. The delays were the result of every minority and pervert group in the area in line screaming for jobs and repair money.
Je$$e HiJack$on will be out leading protest marches to hire his groups. Of course he will get out of a stretch limo a short distance from the finish of each march.
(Just kidding!!!!)
The third paragraph says "California Highway Patrol." Twice. I live in Ohio and "Bay Bridge" means California to me.
It turns out the accident may never have happened had Perez stayed on his assigned route to away from downtown Houston.
"When he got his truck loaded, he was supposed to hit directly to the Loop and then go around to Interstate 10 East," Officer Morrison said. "He chose to take a short cut through town, and going that high rate of speed, lost control of his vehicle."
Ah, from Super Trucker to Stupid *ucker in a matter of seconds.
Also the Chesapeake Bay with it's own Bay Bridge....
If this was in the LA area, it would be fixed in weeks.

Unfortuately you are right. Nothing gets done here and if by chance it does, it takes decades to complete.
This was written for local consumption. It says Bay Bridge in the first paragraph. Locals don't need to be told that is in California.
