Carrollton LGBT group in first fight
Dallas Voice (homosexual newspaper) ^ | April 17, 2007 | David Webb

Mayor Becky Miller
A show of support for Carrollton Mayor Becky Miller and other City Council members who have advocated for diversity is planned for Tuesday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. at Carrollton City Hall.

The event is being organized in response to a petition presented to the Carrollton City Council by a group of residents who opposed the mayor’s appearance in the Alan Ross Texas Freedom Parade in Dallas last September. The mayor and Councilwoman Pat Malone participated in the parade last year at the request of The Carrollton Project, a group that promotes LGBT equality.

The petition demanded that council members refrain from such appearances in the future and that the issue be put before voters if necessary.

About 75 people signed the petition, which was presented to the council by Carrollton resident Paul Kramer. A copy of a Dallas Voice story reporting the two women’s participation in the parade was attached to the petition.

The petition drive reportedly was organized after an anonymous source began distributing a copy of the September 2006 story to Carrollton residents.

Bob McCranie, chairman of The Carrollton Project, said he hopes representatives of various community groups will lend their support to counter the petition.

“What we would like to have is people of all different communities come and express their appreciation to the mayor and the council for their position on diversity,” McCranie said.

“Obviously, there has been an attack on diversity in the city, and what we would like to do is have people come and express their appreciation and support to the council for what they are doing.”

McCranie said that he is hoping representatives of the Muslim, Asian and religious communities will attend the event.

Representatives of those communities have already expressed support to The Carrollton Project, he said.

The Carrollton Project held its first meeting in September 2006 after forming with the help of the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance and the Collin County Gay and Lesbian Alliance.

“Right now it’s kind of incubating,” McCranie said.

“It’s a small community of people who are interested in diversity in the city. It’s a growing community, I should say.”

Representatives of the DGLA and CCGLA said they would attend the council meeting to show support for the group they co-parented.

Pete Webb, president of DGLA, and Morris Garcia, president of CCGLA, said representatives of their groups would be on hand to help friends in need.

“The mayor of Carrollton has been a friend and ally in the fight for diversity,” Webb said. “It is unfortunate that some people are overreacting to the mayor’s efforts."

Garcia said it is part of CCGLA’s mission to rally in support of the LGBT community and its friends.

“We want to show support wherever we can for those people who are under attack,” Garcia said. “I’m hoping we will have a good show-up.”

McCranie said the petition and planned counter protest are the first challenges the small community has met.

“It’s the first test to see if we can pull together and stand up for ourselves,” McCranie said.

McCranie said he is uncertain whether the petition had swayed any council members.

“I have not called council members individually to find out,” McCranie said.
“I’m told that it has not, but I don’t know that for sure.”

The mayor did not return a voice mail message left at her home.

The homosexual agenda impacts Carrollton, Texas, a supposedly conservative, Republican Dallas suburb. The mayor claims to be a Republican and is a member of a local church (Norkirk Presbyterian (USA)).

When perversion prospers, none dare call it perversion.

“diversity”

This word sickens me. Our society is too monolithicly literate. Let’s stop discrimination against those who can’t read. Then we’ll have diversity, right?

The word is the ultimate expression of moral relativism.

Diversity equals perversity in our modern world. It is past time that decent Americans stand up to the perverts and their enablers in government and the drive by media. It may be past that time, and we may find ourselves oppressed by PC fascism where even uttering a harsh word against homosexuals, transvestites, polygamists, adulterers, and pederasts will earn you a quick trip to the sensitivity training gulag. Such tyranny is farther down the road in Britain, Canada, and Sweden, but it will be coming here if decent Americans cower or ignore the problem.

a member of a local church (Norkirk Presbyterian (USA)

Nor'kirk is a member of the liberal PCUSA; support for the homosexual agenda should not cause any problems there.

It is also a member of Grace Presbytery, which has refused to reject ordination of homosexuals (November 11, 2006 Presbytery meeting).

The mainline churches like the PCUSA have long ago lost their resolve to fight sin, unless it is those “sins” defined by the liberal establishment: racism, poverty, environmental pollution, global warming, etc. There are some exceptions in the mainline churches, though, on the level of individual congregations. What is more dangerous is the fact that evangelical congregations, for fear of IRS reprisals or fear of seeming too harsh and mean, will deemphasize the clear teachings of the Bible in these matters. Carrollton has large evangelical and charismatic congregations like Covenant Church, First Baptist, Bent Tree Bible Fellowship, etc., and the largest Baptist congregation in Texas, Prestonwood, just outside the city limits in Plano. I would be surprised if any of the preachers denounce Becky Miller from the pulpit. The Catholic Church is weak in applying Biblical teachings as well - not at the Papal level, but at the diocesan and parish level, where most people have their contact on an ongoing basis.

Many of them now embrace sin. There are a few exceptions - Highland Park Presbyterian is still fighting, for example, but many of the PCUSA churches (and Episcopal, and ELCA, and Methodist) are past being neutral on the issue.

On the other hand, many of the so-called evangelical churches are to the point where they tolerate sin. As you noted, I'd be more surprised if the churches you listed react, than if they don't.

It's very disheartening that so many people are duped into thinking that homosexuality is either neutral or even good and should be supported. What is it that motivates such people? Desire to be "liked"? To not be called a homophobe? To not be sued? Or to make it so that their illicit acts don't look so bad? Who knows. Heartening that people are not putting up with so-called "diversity". That word makes me sick now. They sure don't mean "diversity of viewpoints".

Evangelical churches that sit on the sidelines in the cultural war are perhaps more insidious than the openly pro-homosexual mainline denominations, which have been slowly dying for decades.

At one time, their prominent clergy, such as Bishop Pike and Harry Emerson Fosdick, were useful idiots for the liberal establishment. However, as their denominational numbers and social prestige shrank, and evangelicals and charismatics increased in numbers and influence, especially on TV and radio, the mainline denominations became merely idiots to the secular liberals, to be mostly ignored, except when they need someone with a backwards collar to defend perverts and their rights.

The main issue is with the evangelical churches. Granted, their principal call is to preach the Gospel and not engage in political controversies. However, their refusal to speak out against pro-homosexual politicians, such as Becky Miller, and policies that undermine Biblical values will help hasten the day that their ability to preach God's Word is restrained, as is happening in Sweden, Britain, and Canada. In turn, how far are these post-Christian nations from developing a Soviet-style church, completely subservient to the state ideology, as was the Russian Orthodox Church under Stalin and his successors?
