NEW YORK (AP) -- A possible suspect emerged on Friday in the one of the city's more notorious unsolved crimes: the brutal mugging last month of a 101-year-old woman with a walker.
Police began questioning Jack Rhodes, 44, after noticing he matched a photo of a person wanted for questioning in robberies of women in Queens. Among those victims was 101-year-old Rose Morat, whose holdup was captured on a surveillance tape that outraged New Yorkers.
"If it's the right man, it's wonderful,'' Morat told The Associated Press when reached Friday by phone. But she also cautioned she wouldn't be much help to investigators: "I can't identify him. My eyes aren't that good.''
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Rhodes, who was arrested for possession of a crack pipe, was also under investigation in two other assaults on women who were beaten and robbed............."

Sentence him to 50 years of bedpan duty at an old folks home.
This has been a top priority with the NYPD since the day it happened.
Here’s the original news story with the video of the assault. It’s sickening to watch but she is doing very well today.

I hope they give him serious time and not a slap on the wrist.
Now, now....don’t rush to judgment. I’m sure that Mr. Rhodes is an upstanding citizen. At last, that’s what Al Sharpton told me.
I hope they slap him on both wrists with a sledge hammer.
he looks like a nice friendly guy. /sarc
Every minute that this slug exists is a disgrace to humanity.
This time. From what I've seen on the news he's been in lots of trouble before. The word is, yes he'll be prosecuted agressively this time but one wonders if this would be the case if no one was watching.
It’ll be better if he gets off and is released onto the streets. The surrounding community was really, really pissed about this, and a lot of them are pretty rough types. Now that his picture is all over the newspapers, his life expectancy outside of jail is very, very short.
Why this song comes to mind I just do not know.
