If we were to make a red-blue map of Canada...

I know there is no 'Republican' or 'Democrat' party in Canada, but let's assume red = conservative majority and blue = liberal majority. I'm curious, which provinces would be which colors?
I'd guess something along these lines... Ontario: blue Quebec: blue Manitoba: "swing province" (could go either way) Saskatchewan: red Alberta: red British Columbia: red Yukon, Nunavut, NW Territories: red Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island: No idea, but I'd guess blue since they're closer to Quebec...

I'm going to Canada this summer, and I've been curious about their political makeup for awhile.

I’ve always been under the impression that the farther west they get from the capitol, the redder it becomes.....West equals red, east equals blue......
To: NorCalRepub
That’s what I’ve thought too, it’s the same in the US. That’s why I guessed all the western provinces to be red and the eastern ones to be blue.

I don’t understand the patches of red between the South Eastern Canadian and North Eastern US liberals.

British Columbia: red Not so sure on that. BC might be similar to California, in the sense that BC is dominated by Vancouver, a very liberal city, but more conservative in the rest of the province. This is much the same in California, which is dominated by LA and the SF Bay area (though admittedly the rest of the state stll has strong liberal supportors in residence).

Why is Quebec a light blue? Is that the color for off-the-charts-uber liberal? Lol

A vanity?
First of all, red is liberal here, and blue is conservative.
Where in Canada are you traveling to?

Yeah, I was on the fence with British Columbia. They’re out west so I thought they’d be more conservative, but I wasn’t sure if Vancouver would affect things (weren’t sure how liberal they were).

I don’t know what the deal is with that, this isn’t the first map I’ve seen with Iowa appearing neither red nor blue.

I agree. I have always understood that BC is very liberal, being dominated by Vancouver (sort of like Seattle north). The idea that the hinterlands are conservative is very likely. It’s like Minnesota. Outside the Twin Cities and Duluth, the state is actually quite conservative, but we cannot seem to overcome the overwhelming influence of the socialists in the TC.

Why is Quebec a light blue? Is that the color for off-the-charts-uber liberal? Not sure about the light blue color in this case, I've seen it as representing undecideds or evenly balanced.
In this case your theory sounds as good as any:)

I wanted to go to college in Minnesota, but the TC campus is quite liberal. I know two people here in Maryland who moved from Minnesota who are both conservative Catholics. Though, if they were looking to get away from socialists, Maryland isn’t the best place to come.

What you are seeing there is Eastern Ontario which includes Ottawa, and further down, the GTA (Greater Toronto Area)up to and including cottage country , with the exception of Toronto itself, which swings commie.
