Well, gee, maybe we should elect a president who isn’t so friendly with gay people. That way, we can insure there won’t be any gay people in America by 2012.
Seriously, I just don’t see the logic here. This country has a few million gay people. It will have a few million gay people in 2012 regardless of who is president.
If people want to criticize a proposed Giuliani policy, that’s a fair ground for debate. If Giuliani has said he was going to use his presidency to campaign for gay marriage, for example, that’s a fair issue to discuss. But he hasn’t said that.
When people put up pictures like this, it seems that FR is descending into tribalism. People seem to be saying “we shouldn’t vote for Giuliani because he hangs out with gays and people like us don’t.” The issues are too important to descend into tribalism.
Obviously, we conservatives have legitimate reasons to criticize Giuliani on the issues. But when we criticize him based on old photos, we are not articulating a position based on an inssue.
I don’t mind this picture too much... but I think that the one of Rudy in drag (blond wig, pink dress, fur wrap) is over the top. It would for sure cost him votes. And just imagine the mental image of him that would be held by the heads of state with whom he’d have to deal...
