My impression is that Rudy does not support such abortions. In fact, they are not even supported by Roe v. Wade, which allows states to limit third trimester abortions. He’s come out in support of the recent SC ruling and has said he supports the justices appointed by Bush.
So, I don’t think it’s accurate to claim Rudy supports “abortion on demand.” Words mean things.
My gawd, Rudy has perfect ratings from NARAL and planned parenthood. He addressed NARAL - twice. He said he'd pay for his granddaughter to have an abortion.
Words are cheap. Actions speak volumes. Rudy's past puts the lie to his words. And yours.
How do you reconcile that with his endeavour to secure taxpayer funds for abortions? Actions mean far more than words and while the nation's abortion rates declined 5%, New York's only dropped 1% making that city known as the Abortion Capitol of the USA, no doubt with Giuliani's assistance. That speaks volumes also.
We're all wise enough to know when government confiscates funds from taxpayers to fund anything, that thing is exploited by all involved so more funds will be needed. We're also grown up enough to realize when you make a specific "procedure" readily available rather than provide a sane alternative, that "procedure" will become "normal" behavior.
Let's deconstruct that for a second... he's been opposed to the PBA ban, but he respects the Court's ruling. This could mean one of three things:
and has said he supports the justices appointed by Bush.
He also thinks that Ginsburg was an ideal candidate for the Court, too.
To suggest that 3rd trimester abortions are not permitted by Roe vs. Wade is incorrect. There are still ten States that allow abortions after fetal viability. Thus, abortions can still occur in the third trimester should any State so decide. Rudy is only a very recent convert to the anti-PBA side of the debate. He has previously been opposed to such a ban. He does however still agrees that Roe vs Wade is settled law. The two justices Bush II appointed to the Court agree with Rudy as neither suggested in the PBA decision that the original ruling in Roe vs Wade was unconstitional. Only Judge Thomas and Judge Scalia have consistently ruled that the Roe vs Wade decision was unconstitutional. They reaffirmed that position in the PBA case.
