If she did the job satisfactorily for ten years....

Uh, okay. First, the article did not say she did the job satisfactorily. You are assuming that, unless of course you work at MIT and have supervised her. Second, even if she did do a “satisfactorily” job for 10 years that does not qualify her.

If you discovered the doctor or dentist you had been going to for the last 10 years did, in your opinion, a satisfactory job, but later you discovered they were not board certified or proper trained, would you continue to visit them?

From the article:

She rewrote MIT's application, trying to get students to reveal more about their personalities and passions, and de-emphasizing lists of their accomplishments.

Sounds like she has damaged the admission standards of MIT to me.

"Sounds like she has damaged the admission standards of MIT to me"

Yes, and I suspect she's a politically correct AA hire who (even if she'd had the degrees claimed) was never of the caliber of intellect to judge competently who is best qualified to succeed at a scientific powerhouse like MIT. I wonder how many brilliant prospects have they passed over in recent years to fulfill her pc version of the appropriate "personality" etc.? MIT, more than almost any other institution, has always defined itself by its academic and scientific rigor -- it sounds as though she was a leading part of the movement to "soften" MIT's academic demands. [I'll admit we don't know a lot about her, except that she is a fraud artist who has openly advocated (and implemented, apparently) a major change in emphasis in the MIT admissions process for undergrads.....]

As an MIT Graduate, I can tell you that there are MANY students (both men and women and from all racial backgrounds) at MIT who are well-rounded with stellar academic credentials and accomplishments. In fact, the so-called 'nerds' have to compete against people who not only have the same high SAT scores that they do, but who also have demonstrated incredible leadership in sports, in their communities and in their school organizations.

Obviously MIT didn't follow the same process they use to evaluate students when they hired Ms. Marilee Jones. I won't comment on her situation (I'm still in shock) except to say that the school's admission standards seemed pretty tough (and not 'watered down' as you put it through her leadership) since all of the students I've met over the years are super-intelligent.
