Al Gore opens Tribeca Film Festival

The sixth annual Tribeca Film Festival opened Wednesday night at a gala hosted by former Vice President Al Gore as the festival expanded its social mission with a slate of global warming-themed films.

The festival, which was founded after the Sept. 11 attacks to rejuvenate Lower Manhattan, opened with the premiere of nine short films produced by SOS (Save Our Selves), an organization to raise awareness on climate change.

The night signified not only the opening of this year's festival, but also the growing connection between filmmakers and the issue of global warming. Gore, who starred in the Oscar-winning documentary "An Inconvenient Truth," said artists play an important role in the movement.

"Art, music, film, dance, poetry — all the arts — have long been our greatest tools to explore the regions of imagination that defy our efforts to think rationally about subjects that our emotions tell us are too painful to contemplate," he said.

Gore spoke optimistically of the potential for change. "Somehow, we do have to penetrate that shell of denial," he said.

Hahahaha, you’re really channeling my PO’d inner child this morning ;-D

How much dope is Algore smoking, anyway? He looks loaded in that pic. I love the look Robert DeNiro is giving him.

Hey algore, the only inconvenient truth is that you are a washed up Dem who still pines for all those photo ops.

There is a new climate website, ICECAP, which helps penetrate Gore’s shell of ignorance:

All this attention to Al Gore is really funny. This is the same guy who was Clinton’s butt boy for 8 years and Tipper got to the point where she refused to be in the same camera frame with the Clintons.

Al stayed in the shadows and kept his mouth shut for 8 years while Billy Boy covered himself, the administration and the WH with s^%$!!!!

You did not hear ONE PEEP out of Al, and now Al is the man of the moment demonstrating all sorts of energy and initiative on that trumped-up fraud on the public he calls global warming!!!! If he had any stones AT ALL he would have shown some of this spine while VP and he would have walked away from Billy Boy when it mattered what he thought. Now that it DOES NOT matter what Al Gore thinks, we hear about what he thinks on a daily and almost hourly basis....argggg!!!

I’m uneasy because so many conservatives laugh at Gore. He will make a formidable candidate if he runs and is nominated as the Democrat presidential hopeful in 08. He has the money, he has the name recognition and he has the nod from the insiders behind the scenes who pull the strings.

Remember, he received more popular votes than Bush.

Gore would immediately have the votes of the media, all minorities, illegal aliens, government workers, unions, trial lawyers and yellow dog Democrats.

He would also have financial support from foreign sources who want Democrats in power.

Yes, he is a despicable person, a far-left wealthy socialist, and an extreme (if phony) environmentalists, but those are advantages to a candidate in today’s America.
