WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Rep. Duncan Hunter called Wednesday for Sen. Harry Reid to resign his post as Senate majority leader over remarks that the senator made last week that the war in Iraq "is lost" if the United States continues on its current policy.

Hunter, a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, is the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee.

"In my opinion Sen. Reid, having made that statement, which can only have a demoralizing effect on our troops and an effect of encouragement of the adversary, I think it would be appropriate for Sen. Reid to resign his position as the leader of the United States Senate," he said.

Fox (radio) news on the hour just broadcast a soundbite of Hunter’s call for Hairless Reid to step down. I almost fell off my chair! No question that Hunter is taking the lead when it comes down to the heavy lifting of specifically confronting the Rats.

Hunter has consistently been hammering these bastards. He has received scant coverage.

Hunter is showing very good instincts, as he did when he nailed Murtha with the pullout vote in 2005, for probing the Dims’ vulnerabilities. He definitely doesn’t waste time wringing his hands when the Rats provide a target of opportunity. And he has the stamina to keep pouring it on until something ignites.

The more conservative America knows about Hunter the more they are going to like him. My appreciation to Freepers and all others who won’t compromise their principles, core beliefs, and ideology. To all those who didn’t jump on the “only X can beat Hillary” train, I salute you.

Thank you Congressman Hunter for saying what needs to be said. I have not made my mind up yet for the CA primaries but I just put a giant plus sign for him in my R candidate grid.

Any other R candidates weigh in as strongly in public?

But Reid is NOT the “leader of the United States Senate.”

There is nothing about Reid that makes him, or could enable him to be, a leader. In character he is a small, small person.

hmmmm Could Reid be impeached??

I'm neither a solicitor, a barrister, a lawyer or a constitutional scholar, but I'm guessing that there is no mechanism for doing that because if there was, they would have tried to impeach Newt Gingrich.

At the very least he should resign!

Agreed, although I won't hold my breath.  Only an honorable person would resign in such a matter, and of course that entire concept of honor doesn't apply in the case of this treasonous idiot.
