I always wondered if someone in my apartment complex in college would call the apt. office to report that I had guns in my apartment. I lived in college housing and liked to go shooting (not on campus) on the weekends and would have to carry three or four gun cases to my car. I could see the So. Cal. blondes eyeing me wearily as I walked to and fro. For some reason we were not supposed to have guns on the premises, as if unloaded guns stored in your closet were going to walk out to the living room and unload on a group of psychology majors.

What exactly is an assault rifle in the US? I thought that it was illegal to own a fully-automatic firearm in most cases. My AK-47 is semi-auto and is not an assault rifle. It will never be used on another person unless they are assaulting me!

Fully automatic weapons are OK to have but you do need a federal permit and they cost a lot.

You bring up a good point. The university does contract with apartment complexes around campus to house students. I wonder if they can legally bar weapons from those premises?
