Hunter, R-El Cajon, spoke to a gathering of the group in Orange County last week and drew 22 votes or 19 percent of the ballots cast in the poll, tying him with former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Isn't this the equivalent of Al Gore losing his home state in the presidential election? Hunter lost this straw poll to a guy who is not even in the race and he tied with a guy who has only recently reinvented himself as a quasi-conservative. I expected more home-state support for a favorite son, career politican, who is best known for bringing home the bacon.

Why would you expect that? According to you he’s a nuttin but a lazy pork-laden congressman.

The whole celebrity thing has consumed much of the GOP, apparently. Instead of picking the viable, best conservative and shouting his name from the mountain tops, too many here, and in conservative media, have taken the early name recognition polls to heart as the indicator of who should be supported.

That's because a lot of people in the conservative media are more media than conservative. This election cycle has been very useful for rooting out the fakes, that's for sure.

Hunter/Tancredo. DREAM ticket!!! I know they are starting off slow, but as the Dem/traitor Congress continues to run things into the ground, the American people will hunger for a real change, and real conservatives.

Yes, but he's their lazy pork-laden congressman, and so I would expect Hunter to get more votes than a guy who is not even running -- yet. Instead, the non-candidate out-polled the "favorite son" by nearly 25%. That's not good for your boy, my friend.

And so many in the conservative media are freakin PUNDITS. Paid to opine and, in theory, support the conservative cause. Alas, its going to be the rank and file force feeding them what they don’t want.

Once again, national recognition plays a part. Although Hunter has been in San Diego for years, look at the national media. Look at the buzz being generated by Thompson right now. People are desperate for a winner, which doesn’t make any sense at this point in time...but hey, what can you do.

Nine months to go.

And him stepping up to and calling for Reid to resign is not only a good political move, it is genuine Hunter.
