Hogs at a western North Carolina farm have tested positive for melamine, the industrial chemical blamed for killing and sickening dogs and cats that ate it in their food.
North Carolina Department of Agriculture officials said that none of the hogs that ate the tainted food have entered the food chain for human consumption. The department has quarantined the farm, which has about 1,400 hogs, until it the U.S. Food and Drug Administration can advise what to do next.

and don’t forget this gem in the FDA article:
“We’re going to become a net food import country, so we’d better have a good monitoring system in place.”
With all the arable land we have WHY are we going to become a net importer? Oh, right, because it’s cheaper.
I’ve about had it. I’d rather buy less, pay more, and have our country be self-sufficient. We can start now. I’ve got enough cheap Chinese crap that I keep throwing out because it breaks. Now they want me to do it with the food!

China is refusing to allow American inspectors into Chinese food plants and we are responding with more diplomacy. The Chinese granted the FDA permission to inspect the plants today.
China yields to U.S. investigation on pet food
Of course, by now the plants have probably been tidied up a bit.

I have to agree, tinfoil chapeau in place, that it does seem a little more than an ‘accident’, just a little fishy. Makes one wonder...

This is just a big cheating scam by China to cheat the customers by puting other substances on feed that appear to be protien but, in fact, are not.Malicious intent or accident, it does seems suspicious. Add to that the PRC's apparent manipulation of the markets to their great profit (and savvy buyers here), and it's an even odder coincidence. Testing the waters perhaps...

I've been warning for years about keeping the US food independent. It doesn't matter who has the bombs, it matters who has the bombs and the food.
I don't know if they did it on purpose to harm Americans but they surely might have done to boost the protein analysis.

Notice how a bag marked melamine was included with the rice protein shipment?Yeah, woops! Sigh, maybe the FDA is stalling hoping for a Hillary win so they can drop the matter completely. I mean, it would be a lot of work and demand a staunch position...

thanks Bill Clinton, thanks NAFTA, :NAFTA is an equal-opportunity screwup. Clinton got it started but Bush made China a permanent preferred partner. Vote against NAFTA supporters regardless of party.
