As environmentalists celebrate the 34th annual Earth Day, some in the green movement are now advocating "diaper-free" babies to help save the planet.
SNIP
The green movement is now promoting diaperless babies as a "retro, cutting-edge, environmentally friendly scheme" to mothers throughout the industrialized world.
SNIP
"There is a way to have a baby and NOT use diapers," says one website advocating diaperless babies. Parents are urged to get in tune with their infant's body signals and hold babies over toilets, buckets and shrubbery or any other convenient receptacle when nature calls.

Luckily I’ve never encountered it, but I have heard tales of parents who let their kids run around pantsless and just pick up after ‘em.
We’re talking about free-ranging toddlers here.
The nastiness abounds.

I’ve heard of this before. There’s people (not just moonbats) who swear that parents can be trained to detect when their baby is about to let fly, with enough warning to get the child to a suitable, ah, depositing place. I guess you’d still have to have some diapers handy for long rides in the car seat.
Beats me. I’m the father of a fifteen-month-old and I’ve never been able to tell when she’s about to go. Only afterwards. Pew.

This was the big debate 14 years ago when my wife had our first baby. Which was "greener," disposable diapers or cloth? Cloth diapers were washable, whereas disposable diapers went into a landfill.
But then you had to take into account how many gallons of fresh water it takes to wash a diaper, even with a diaper service, vs. the amount needed to make a paper diaper.
When you factor in convenience, we went disposable. A very liberal "Green" couple that are very good friends went with cloth, for about a year. Then they went disposable too.
