This VT thing finally got me off my arse to buy that pistol I’ve been saying I was gonna get for 3 years (I’m a long gun guy, but the VT incident and the ensuing MSM hysterics over it convinced me I needed a hogleg). Several friends have sold me on the 1911-A1. I’m shopping around now.
The 1911 is a great pistol, but you have to constantly practice with the thing to be able to hit anything.
For a good personal defense pistol - I’d go with a Sig.

Taurus makes a beauty of a 1911 for about 500.00. GREAT gun.
Get a gun that fits your hands and you understand where the bells and whistles are. Try a few at a gunshop that rents.
I really like my 1911’s and they seem to be the gun that almost every gun manufacture is making now. You can even buy a 1911 made by Sig, Taurus or Smith and Wesson.
Springfield Armory is making the smallest 1991 ever made. It’s in 9MM. Fancy that.
