1) restored voting rights to felons 2) suggested cutting property taxes by *RAISING* sales tax, effectively taking the money out of the hands of local government and putting it in the hands of the state 3) cut insurance rates for those insured by the state-subsidized Citizens insurance program, which will increase them for everybody else 4) and signed on to Crowe's and David's magical mystery tour.
I voted for the guy in 2006, and will be working hard to see him defeated in 2010 unless he starts governing as a conservative.
I wonder if they discussed toilet paper use.
I’m calling for a Virtual Parade Rest and then a Virtual Fall-Out.
One hundred years ago the vital issue was eugenics.
I, too, voted for him in 2006...and, beginning to seriously regret that Gallagher wasn’t the R candidate.
Recently told a good friend of Charlie’s that we didn’t intend to elect a Democrat lite to the Fla Gov mansion.
I’ve heard talk of Crist as a future Presidential candidate...and I chuckled.... maybe too soon. Maybe Charlie does have Presidential aspirations and working to ensure he’ll get Dem and R votes.
4 more yrs!!! ReCall this a-hole
As did I. Gut feeling at the time was he was a flaming liberal. Gut feelings, unfortunately, are too often correct.
I don’t know that Florida has a recall election as an option.
Unfortunately, it’s too early for most people to notice the negative effect that Crist will leave on this state...so a recall wouldn’t be effective yet anyhow.
I come from one of only two counties who voted for Katherine Harris over Bill Nelson. If Crist has to fight for votes in this county in 2010, he doesn’t stand a chance. And I’m going to work hard to see to it that he’s in a tough fight down here...and that seeing his eroding base, the Republican party puts someone up to run against him.
Well, at least this makes sense. What I don’t understand is why Minnesota’s senator railed against global warming.
Even if global warming weren’t a scam, fraud and a cult, Minnesota would undoubtedly benefit from it if it were to exist.
Crist is also creepy. More than one person has stated that he makes their skin crawl.
Obviously Charlie is looking to get reelected by the democrats in 2010. I wondered what was happening to the state party when they didn’t show up for the 2006 elections.
With Jeb gone, we have no one to fill his shoes.
And looney Bill will keep plugging on as our Senator.
And Senator Martinez is apparently Bill’s sidekick.
President Hillary will probably be endorsing Governor Crist and Senator Martinez in 2010.
And on the sales tax issue - the original idea as proposed by State Rep Needleman was to eliminate the ability to foreclose on your property by eliminating property taxes. Residents who bought before the last real estate boom have been seeing there taxes rise fro 500-600 a year to 4000-5000 a year, and they are being forced to sell or lose their homes. I’d rather have an 8.5% sales tax and have no way for the county to take my property. Also visitors would contribute more to the state, and There would be a cap on county spending growth... We voted a cap by an over 89% margin in this county, but the county government took it to state supreme court and had it declared unconstituional.
Florida politics as usual - transplant yankees win again.
” Global warming is one of the most important issues our state and our country will face during this century, said Governor Crist “
Then stop buying gasoline, Governor Crist.
These ‘leaders’ have to photographed driving their auto’s
for all to see they are not really serious about stopping ‘Global Warming’.
Residents of Florida are *NOT* seeing tax increases anywhere near the numbers that you’re quoting because of the Save Our Homes amendment. Increases are capped at 3% per year...so unless you’re paying $166,666/year in taxes right now, you’ll not see a $5000 increase.
Don’t buy into the argument that a sales tax increase is better. It will just pull the money out of your community and give it to the state to spend as they see fit.
And I’m not sure I agree with your assessment of Martinez. His voting record on everything but immigration is strongly conservative.
I voted for him, with worry and doubt. It seems all of us who did the same are watching those concerns playing out.
Crist is an “I feeeel your pain” kind of Republican. Pose for the media, and do whatever, let us see what bills he signs. Oh, by the way, I told you Cristophytes so.
Sorry - but I’ve already have had friends who’s property taxes went from $354 dollars to $4600 - The property had a new subdivision go in next door, and all of a sudden it’s worth a lot ( to the county). Rep Needleman - who’s on the local talk radio every monday morning - Keeps pinting out that people are missing the point. He wants to eliminate the government’s ability to seize your land. Right now most Floridians really just rent from the government - If you don’t believe that stop paying your property taxes and see how long it’s your property. He’s out to stop this behaviour, as well as to limit the county governments spending on nonessential services. Half of Brevard county is now owned by some government entity, and off the tax roles. And if ou have property on water, forget it - Five years ago a beachside home was about 200,000, now they start at 1,000,000 - Our county has higher tax revenues now than ever, yet they still overspend. That’s what he’s trying to stop.
as to Sentaor Martinez - ask him about immigration- he’ll give you a nice form letter about how you really don’t understand all the ramifications.
Those friends of yours were not Florida residents...or they failed to apply for Homestead exemption and are not protected under the Save Our Homes Amendment. What you’re saying happened could not happen to a Florida resident who has applied for Homestead.
And Needleman is floating a red herring. How many Floridians are actually at risk of having their land seized?
The issue is about transferring the money from the local counties and into the hands of the state legislators.
