Falls lit up in crimson and orange in memorial to Virginia Tech dead
National Post
Published: Monday, April 23, 2007
Niagara Falls was last night lit up in crimson and orange, the colours of Virginia Tech University where 33 people died in a shooting rampage last week. Vince Anello, the mayor of Niagara Falls, N.Y., said: "I can think of no more appropriate venue to memorialize these students and educators than the beauty of one of God's most majestic natural treasures." The tribute would "allow the good and decent people of Southern Ontario and Western New York to reach out to those families who are living through this terrible, terrible heartache." Classes are due to resume today at the university, exactly a week to the day after Cho Seung-hui shot 32 people before killing himself.

So far the only photos I could find online (above) were taken by an AP sports photographer; likely in Buffalo to cover the NHL Sabres.
Hopefully some shots of the more spectacular Horseshoe Falls will be available via the Internet later today?

I guess its attractive, but I find that kind of thing cheapens a natural wonder — sort of like filling the Grand Canyon with colorful balloons or painting a happy face on Half-dome

While I can see your point, the lighting is only at night when both Falls wouldn't otherwise largely be visible & normally predominantly white in color.
Plus, it's arguably way down the list of factors which contribute to both cities' (especially Niagara Falls Ontario's) long-time cheap & tawdry 'tourist trap' images.
It's also likely worth noting to some that all the illumination comes from the
Canadian side of the border - LOL!

That’s a beautiful gesture. God bless Canada!
(on a lighter note, even if those durn Senators beat my Penguins).

At the risk of sounding bitchy, I would note that Virginia Tech is the only school I’ve discovered so far to have a worse color scheme than mine.
If you’re curious, that would be Houston Baptist University, which sports a nasty bright orange and an otherwise unremarkable royal blue.

You’ve got something similar to my school colors—UVA. The only thing that made us feel better is that we were in the same state as VA Tech and we could look at them and realize how much worse our colors could be.

Note: with support from very few in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) - go Sabres!
With Crosby & Co, the Pens will quite likely win a Stanley Cup before the decade's out. Patience.

There is a lot to be said about having a scheme that people don’t mimic though. My alma mater used black and gold. That was pretty unsightly.

Imagine this, just the blue-and-yellow thing (without the blue-edged capelet underneath), except where this is yellow, mine was vile orange.
The horror remains with me to this day, and I graduated in 1990.

(especially Niagara Falls Ontario's) long-time cheap & tawdry 'tourist trap' images. Yeah I've been there. In fact I added from there to the collection of tacky-Americana souvenirs that I used to pick up for my brother in my travels. It was a silk pillow with a gold fringe. The only place for better tacky souvenirs is Graceland in Memphis.

Hee, I suppose the Leafs and the Sabres would tend to be rivals! The Sabres are my hubby’s favorite team next to the Pens, but we otherwise root for the Canadian team on principle (since we owe you a huge debt for inventing the most wonderful of all sports).
I’m bummed for our Pens, but this was such a great season that any playoff action at all was just icing (if you’ll pardon the pun). I’m just glad they’re staying here where they belong — I couldn’t stand the thought of watching Sid and company play for anyone else.

Blue and orange, not so much.
