With former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani consistently leading early polls for the Republican presidential nomination, pundits have spilled an ocean of ink concerning his electability.
Having recently sat down with the man, let me tell you why I consider Giuliani a candidate wholly appropriate for our times.
As someone who spends a lot of time thinking and writing about globalization and security, I was brought in recently by the Giuliani campaign to discuss these topics with the mayor.
This is standard practice as presidential candidates gear up, and Giulianis camp is the fourth Ive visited in the last year.
Ill make no attempt to describe the mayors positions on anything we discussed, because thats his job as candidate.
Let me instead give you a sense of what it was like to engage him over a couple of hours on my areas of expertise. Ive interacted with numerous government, military and corporate leaders over the past couple of decades, so Im able to draw some comparisons.
First off, Giuliani is a serious and wide-ranging reader, not just a skimmer of bullets prepared by his staff. When he reads your stuff, you better remember what you wrote because this guy really absorbs material.
Second, Hizzoner engages you directly vs. having his subordinates draw you out. Typically, you brief the senior player only to have staffers toss out most of the follow-on questions. With Giuliani, you lay out your basic argument briefly and then its off to the races. As an experienced prosecutor, the questions flow quickly and to the point.
Third, the mayors been around this world. No matter where the conversation wandered, Giuliani had personal contacts or experience or knowledge to draw upon.

The author means Rudy is a good Bull Shi**ing RINO
I've never seen that win points with Republicans if the person wasn't vocally Christian, pro-life, and pro-gun.
Those three are the dealbreakers, as I see it.
He’s a real
Liberal.
Rudy and Hillary are the smartest women in the world.
Yawn.
Wake me up when he is gone from the race.
Rudy's wet dream
That's the NYT, the LAT, and now the Boston Globe all cheerleading for Rudy.
Three strikes, you're out.

Springtime is here. Perfect time to get a real life. Turn off the tube. Smell the flowers. Labor to think an original thought. It's not going to kill you.
You are right, spring is a good time to get out, and do what you can to torpedo the liberal Rino Rudy.
The same thing is said about both Clintons...
Forgot the barf alert!
Unfortunately, intellect and mindless ideologues are totally incompatible.
Intellectual?
1. He thinks he can take our guns and make America a better place.
2. He thinks he looks good in drag
3. He thinks it’s ok to kill babies.
He’s an idiot.
NARAL ideologues love Rudy.
Oh, I forgot one:
4. He thinks he can get elected President.
I said “NO RUDY” when he first announced. Got tired of saying “NO RUDY” over and over and took a break for awhile. I’m all rested now so I’m back to say NO RUDY again.
NO RUDY.
Well, I can think of at least two past presidents in my life time that had high I.Q’. Both wife cheaters and not really good at being the CIC.
Do we want a rerun? Not this military family.
Bill Clinton is really smart, too. A smart socialist.
