Wash. Post ^ | April 23, 2007 | Kim Hart

Praised for its high-paying jobs and cultural attractions, Washington was rated this year's top city for African Americans by Black Enterprise magazine. The report appears in the May issue.

The magazine asked visitors to its Web site to rank their satisfaction with a long list of cities, and then applied economic, census and labor data to come up with its annual analysis of the 10 best metropolitan areas for African Americans. Although Washington is regularly near the top of the list, this is the first year it has come in first. Atlanta and Houston led the list in the previous two years.

I wonder if they factored in that little tax break for first time D.C. home buyers which we all noticed when we filled out our TurboTax forms?? I live in Phoenix, so I was not eligible. I was HAPPY to subsidize their housing! </sarc>

Someone at work suggested that this was geared towards helping out arriving Congress critters. I didn’t look at the details, so I couldn’t tell. I actually thought those privileged folks lived in more expensive digs. Is Georgetown in D.C.?

It is not for congress. It is only for DC residents. Daschle got in trouble for trying to claim this while a senator and resident of SD.

I think Murtha may have had the same problem.

But there’s still the totally worthless and over-priced DC public school system and gun control that doesn’t control squat.

Georgetown is part of the District of Columbia. An upscale part, at that.

Many, many years ago, Georgetown was a separate,
independent community. LONG time ago......

Perhaps White Enterprise Magazine will do an article on the best cities for whites. I’ll be waiting with baited breath.

No connection seen between this report and the continued #1 crime rate city statistics.

What a coincidence Washington, Houston, and Atlanta are the top 3 cities in the US I try to avoid.

Government exists to provide for otherwise unemployable people, a middle class lifestyle.

Who cares? I need some information I can put to practical use.

Give me a high tech city in the U.S. where the women of child bearing age are all athletic conservative Republicans, taxes are low, licensed gun ownership high, homos are locked back in the closet, there are no illegal aliens, and no voice prompts for "Press 2 for English".

Or any reasonably close approximation thereof.

I'd ask for low crime rates, but with the above specs, it's a given.
