tanuki,

Any thoughts about French/EU involvement in 3/11, especially regarding the Basques? I know there were a rash of escapes from French prisons of ETA operatives prior to 3/11. Also, Spain under the PP was waffling on support for the union.

I don't know how you, tanuki, dare to think such a thing about we Europeans that are righteous and peaceful people, as our history proves.

Spain was blocking the EU Constitution, which, by the way, was no Constitution at all - like 3/11 was no Islamist attack - but a treaty endowing some extraordinary powers to burocrats in Brussels and their allies, and a preponderance of the bigger countries, under a nicer name.

The Constitution was unblocked by Zapatero in his second or third foreign policy decission (the first was leaving the Americans alone as they encircled Najaf), one month and a half after he got into office, in May 2004.

Finally, one year later, a lost referendum in France sank all the project.

(IMHO, the latter is a clear sign the God does exist, and that is said by a not very religious person.)

Above all, tanuki, 3/11 was a coup conceived by Spaniards, an inside job. We, people investigating it, are now focusing in the main plot. In the meantime, governments, policies and attitudes in European countries may change (I hope so), because they are democracies: there are elections, new rulers and new ideas.

Have you ever think of applying to the foreign service?

“I don’t know how you, tanuki, dare to think such a thing about we Europeans that are righteous and peaceful people, as our history proves.”

Oh, perish the thought!

Seriously, if I am deviating from the main theme of getting to the bottom of this for the sake of the victims and their families, I humbly backtrack. I realize now that I was engaging in conspiracy talk worthy of some less reputable corners of the internet. Let me say that I am a Europhile and have no particular ax to grind with any particular member of the EU. Just the EU in general!

I didn’t know Zapatero played such a role in getting the EU constitution back on course at a point when the whole Union was leaving the tracks. Small wonder that interests in Spain tied to the EU would resort to anything to get him elected. My hope for Spain and Spaniards is for them to regain some sense of themselves back before it is too late. It is a sad decline for a nation and culture that gave us, among other things, the first truly global state in the Spanish Empire, the scholarship of Salamanca and the art of the Baroque.

So you think I have potential as a foreign service officer? Well, if you think I can live up to the example currently being set by our esteemed Speaker of the House, then I am deeply honored!/sarc. I do seem to cause the most interesting situations to arise when I open my mouth!
