Hi ohioWfan.

We’ve had a conversation before and I don’t find you to be an unreasonable person, but you have to realize what is going on here.

People are tired of being told who they MUST vote for, and are fighting back, because we don’t want another ‘liberal’ in the Whitehouse.

There comes a time when you must decide if you want to have conservative values returned to this nation, as the founders had originally started with, Or do you just want to be ‘in control’ no matter the cost to those ideals and values?

Would returning to conservative values mean possibly sacrificing the Whitehouse and maybe more?

Possibly, but there has to come a time when people must decide what is right over what is expedient.

Yes, we could throw our support behind a ‘not so pure’ Republican. But at what cost?

I understand that you don’t support Rudy, but voting for him to keep ‘Hillary’ out is to throw away any chance of returning to conservative values. Maybe for a very long time, If not forever.

Does this mean that we, like the Jews, will ‘wander in the wilderness’ for a time?

Yes. It may. But to give up your ideals for a temporary win would be allowing the opposition to control your life and would be no win at all.

I,for one, am not willing to do that.

And, if you are a true conservative, you should not be willing to do that either.

If we lose, and I’m not convinced we will, the road back may be long and hard and the loss to the country will be tragic.

But it’s a risk that must be taken to bring this country back to where it should have been to begin with.

It will not be easy and possibly even scary, but it must be done if we want to preserve this great nation.

I only hope I am still alive when it happens.

I have long ago decided that I want conservative values.

And those include the sanctity of life, first and foremost, but they also include honesty, decency (which does not include vulgarity) and morality.

I have already explained ad nauseum that I do not support Rudy, BUT, if Hillary takes office one of the first things she will do is to make sure that American tax dollars kill more babies. Her record is clear, and it is unfathomable for me, as a conservative, to help her get back into the White House.

I value life, this great country and conservatism too much to assist in her achieving her goal.

It goes even deeper than that, IMO.

It would be one thing if the GOP had retained power in the 2006 elections. The GOP leadership at least would have a basis to claim they had a winning strategy for 2008.

But the GOP drifted away from its roots, cavorted with lobbyists and dabbled with petty corruption - and got spanked as a result.

Subsequently, certain factions of the GOP (and FR) went around blaming conservatives. Those people are the Han Solo wing of the GOP ("It's not my fault!") - even though many of the misgivings conservatives had about Bush and GOP Leaders such as Hastert and Frist and DeLay came to pass and those cost the GOP in 2006.

So the efforts of the GOP leadership to move leftward in response to the losses in 2006 shows their solution to failure is to do more of what has failed. Which is absurd. And a recipe for disaster.

Far from being 100 percenters, unappeasables and all the other nonsense being thrown at them by Rudy boosters, the overwhelming support for Fred on FR shows conservatives are pragamatic and willing to make some compromises. But supporting Rudy would not represent compromise but utter capitulation. We won't go there. And those pushing Rudy already played their role in the 2006 losses. So they ain't worth listening to anyway.
