So you think Rudy MIGHT pick a conservative justice because of Ted Olsen?

I can still recall a post-presidency interview with Bush 41, and the topic being Souter. The elder was obviously distraught in his choice and kept saying that his advisors ASSURED him Souter was the only conversative that would pass the confirmation hearings.

That did a lot of good for us, didn’t it?

I KNOW there's a chance Rudy will back conservative nominees to the federal courts. I also KNOW there's about a 0% chance that Hillary!, Obama or Edwards would. If those are the only two viable choices come election time, which would you rather choose?

But we're not at that point yet. This discussion is premature. Rudy is not the Republican nominee. Unfortunately, the current VIABLE choices in the Republican primary so far aren't much better. But that hopefully will change soon.

Given the post-Bork political climate, President George H.W. Bush was probably right. Souter replaced uber-liberal William Brennan. That appointment was a missed opportunity, but ultimately a wash. But then the same President that you called a RINO in your previous post gave us Clarence Thomas to replace uber-liberal, Thurgood Marshall. That appointment was a home run.

Bush 41 went 1-for-2 on Supreme Court appointments. While I'd obviously prefer that Bush 41 would have gone 2-for-2, what do you think a President Dukakis' record would have been?

If Americans are expected to stand behind a president they did not vote for (in theory at least), then why shouldn't we stand behind a nominee that not all of us supported.

This tells me that a president can be influenced by his advisors for SCOTUS picks, and I'd be very pleased to know Ted Olsen's influence was being heard. Sure would beat Hillary's den of thieves.
