When this story about the Chinese connection and melamine being the suspected toxin first broke, I posted that I was not only concerned about pet food and my 3 kitties but that this and other toxins might be getting into the human food chain as well either directly or through farm animal feed and that apparently I was right and this is now the case!
I have no confidence in the FDA to ensure the safety of our food and I certainly don’t trust the Chi-coms.
This summer I plan to visit a lot of the local farmers markets and produce stands and I’m considering buying one of those vacuum food sealers or learning how to can. There are also some local farmers in my area who also sell meat and eggs. And I will definitely be on the look out for local organic farmers.
I know that some people have chosen to make their own dog food which isn’t too hard because dogs are more omnivorous and aren’t as picky as cats who are also more carnivorous. I recently switched from Science Diet prescription CD and Iams to Purina Naturals but I’m curious if anyone has any suggestions on what to feed cats other than commercial cat food.
