Respect is earned. Baldwin is no longer in a position to demand it via his authority, and evidently he hasn't done anything to merit it.
Please think about that for a moment. You’re not talking about a football team or a sales force! this is his freaking daughter! She’s eleven years old! What if you’re eleven year old told you that you weren’t worthy of his/her respect, and not only will he/she not take out the trash as you told them to, (or do you ask them nicely?) but they show you contempt because you cussed them out and now they need some time for you to prove that you are worthy of their respect!
