Alec Baldwin apologizes after fiery rant at daughter, 11 [breaks silence]

Alec Baldwin issued an apology on Friday for unleashing a volcanic tirade at his 11-year-old daughter and blamed "certain people" for leaking the rant to US media.

The Oscar-nominated star of "The Departed" branded daughter Ireland a "rude, thoughtless, little pig" in a fiery voicemail message that emerged on celebrity websites on Thursday.

It is the latest twist to the bitter legal wrangling between Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger over custody and visitation rights relating to Ireland. The couple split in 2001.

Baldwin's tirade was apparently triggered by Ireland's failure to switch her mobile phone on for a scheduled call with her father.

"Once again I've made an ass out of myself trying to get to a phone at a specific time," Baldwin says in the message. "I'm tired of playing this game with you. You have insulted me for the last time.

Ok. Good. That doesn’t sound so dangerous then.

But keep the tapes, and make sure your lawyer has a copy of them.

You are so right! When my children were little and we would tuck them in, and pray next to their bed, I always said, “Thank you God for loaning (child’s name) to me, and giving me the opportunity to love (child’s name)”. I would have cut off my right arm to have had the same experience as a child. My memory is of parents with angry faces and venemous words - a terrible legacy to give a child.

You don’t understand, Kim and the courts have cut his nuts off. If he doesn’t call, he’s a bad father. If he does call, she doesn’t answer. Who do you think controls that? What kind of behavior do you think she’s learned from her mother? Can you say, “manipulative”? I knew you could.

My Dad was in ill health through most of my 6 year marriage but I’ll never forget in his younger days, when my oldest sister was being abused by her alcoholic husband, he took several of the brothers and I believe he carried an axe over to the apartment but my brother-in-law got away out the back door. My brother-in-law stopped drinking and is still married to my sister for over 35 years. I’ll never forget him weeping at my Dad’s bedside as he passed away.

I don’t know what I said to him, but he said, I loved him too ya know. That said it all.

I will but I’d rather try to keep it out of the courts.

If he wants custody, it’s going to end up in the courts, and you want the evidence in the lawyer’s safekeeping.

This indicates the wussification of parents and the child worship of the American society better than any Oprah moment.

Good for you look at Mediation. As one divorce lawyer told me, I always get everything, why are they fighting over it.

Mediation is cheap....it usually works and it’s fair.

Her mother didn’t teach her father to talk to his daughter like that.

Two things in this statement from Baldwin do not seem to be the truth.

You said your kids forget to turn on their phone & maybe Ireland is the same way. But I have never seen or heard of a kid VOLUNTARILY turning off their phone. Our schools are fighting this phone battle every day. Most kids I see look like their hand is stuck to their ear, permanently. I can’t see a kid turning off their phone unless forced to do so. Why does anybody turn off their phone - I rarely do?

Second, Baldwin talks like he has to walk to Ike Godsey’s General Store to use the phone. Surely, he has a phone in his pocket with Ireland’s number on speed dial. Finding a private place for a momentary call should not be that difficult either. He knew he needed to make the call at a certain time, so it was just another thing on his schedule that day.

I agree with Geraldo on this one: Ireland should get a restraining order on him.

“My parents whipped the crap out of me, and looking back I’m glad they did.”- Dennis Leary - That was true when he said it, and even truer now. The bus on the road to ruin comes for us during the “time out”.

you’re joking, right? You’re as big of a nut and a control freak as Alec Baldy!! You’re going to demand your 11 year old daughter call you on the court-appointed schedule because you’ve been more angry at her mother than you care about her feelings?? You’re going to MAKE an 11 year old precious daughter have a meaningful relationship with you, or she’s going to be damn sorry, and you’re going to scare the shit out of her by getting on an airplane and telling her who’s boss?

She’s 11 YEARS OLD! You’re a pig too...and no apologies here for saying so. Your attitude in your post reaks of bitterness and anger, my friend. I hope you don’t have any daughters OR sons. Respect is earned, thru respect and kindness shown to children. Period.

Don’t be a jerk..

Thanks, I agree. It might end up in mediation if he continues to tell my son that he has three lawyers and he’s going to court to get custody of him.
