Alec Baldwin issued an apology on Friday for unleashing a volcanic tirade at his 11-year-old daughter and blamed "certain people" for leaking the rant to US media.
The Oscar-nominated star of "The Departed" branded daughter Ireland a "rude, thoughtless, little pig" in a fiery voicemail message that emerged on celebrity websites on Thursday.
It is the latest twist to the bitter legal wrangling between Baldwin and ex-wife Kim Basinger over custody and visitation rights relating to Ireland. The couple split in 2001.
Baldwin's tirade was apparently triggered by Ireland's failure to switch her mobile phone on for a scheduled call with her father.
"Once again I've made an ass out of myself trying to get to a phone at a specific time," Baldwin says in the message. "I'm tired of playing this game with you. You have insulted me for the last time.

If he is apologizing to anyone except his daughter, I would say the apology is self-serving.
“I, Alec Baldwin, no longer think of my 11 or 12 year old daughter as a rude little pig. I’m sorry to anyone who may have been offended. Thank you.”
This Hollywood mental case should be made to apologize to Henry Hyde and family, then sent to Venezuela where he will be right at home with America haters like his sick self.
Absolutely! I heard on the radio today that Bassinger was able get his visitation rights pulled as a result of this phone message. I wonder what he would have done if he'd actually been able to see her? My guess is it wouldn't be pretty.
I really wish this guy would make good on his promise to move to France.....

If nothing else, I think his ex-wife has completely and fully won her custody case and any appeals this fool would try to make.
I’m sorry, and I am not a big Alex Baldwin fan, but if he didn’t care about his daughter, then he wouldn’t even bother...Kate Hudson, daughter of Goldie Hawn and one of the old Hudson Brothers pop rock act, said she seldom talked with her father. Same goes for Liv Tyler, Steven Tyler’s (Aerosmith) daughter. She thought her father was Todd Rundgren...her mother, Bebe, was a Playmate in the 70’s and had a thing for those Famous Rock Stars. Anyway, from what I’ve read, Kim Basinger is rather bizarre and to have her record this sort of conversation, and not the apology that Baldwin called in later after he had cooled off is wrong, and it is going to cost her in the long run. Hey, if one of my sons pulled that sort of thing on me and wouldn’t take my call, which was a routine between us, I would be using choice words on him, believe me, and I would have some to give to his mother. Hey, nobody is saying that Baldwin molested his daughter, are they? Losing your temper and saying stuff that you might regret later (and have to apologize) just shows that Baldwin is human, fallable and loves his children, but demands their respect as the bottomline. I may not like his politics, and even though I crack a gut everytime I watch, America, World Police, I’m non Alex Baldwin’s side on this one. If my daughter is supposed to call me every such and such a day at such and such a time, then she better make damned sure she’s on that phone, and I don’t care if she’s six or sixty. That’s her Dad: show some respect.

Clearly Alec Baldwin has rage issues - that’s been well known and documented for many years.
I hope his daughter is around those who can explain all this - and can shelter her from the self serving news coverage.

Per KABC, Baldwin is now threatening to sue TMZ’ Harvey Levin because of the audio recording’s public release.
An apology intended to shift responsibility away and/or avoid the consequences of the act is meaningless.
In fact, a sincere apology requires taking responsibility and showing a compelling desire to make things right by accepting the full consequences of the action.
You are probably right. I've seen enough of his antics to know this likely wasn't a one time shot. That moe has some serious issues.

Ditto to that. I’ve got two kids and a usual houseful of them over the weekends. I’ve yelled at mine plenty but never would I even consider making the kind of hurtful personal comments (pig, thoughtless, stupid, etc.) comments that Baldwin did.
It’s nothing new for him - witness his vitriol towards Henry Hyde and Hannity. I am sure if he’s willing to call Hannity a “whore” he’s probably not too shy about calling his ex-wife and even daughter one. Scumbag.
And he’s mad because his daughter forgot to turn her cellphone on? Pleeeze - my kids forget that routinely.
I’d keep him away from my kid - he’s an emotional batterer and I don’t think it would take much to make him into an actual one. (And I am a big supporter of dad’s rights, but
not in this case) Nothing excuses what he said to his innocent and vunerable daughter.
