Unfortunately, there are a few FReepers who think that they are conservative because they are lifelong GOP voters and that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Free Republic is not a Republican website or an anti-Democrat website, it is a conservative website. Conservatism is about belief in conservative ideals, not party affiliation.

"Speaking from personal experience: I’ve posted thousands of times and traded barbs with some of the best that FR has to offer. And as you can tell from my site name, there’s that little issue of my being a Democrat on a website where “Democrat” and “satan incarnate” are usually synonymous terms. Yet I’m still here."

I guess we're not much of a perceived threat. I've personally stated, on occasion, such outrageous things as the fact that I have no hatred of homosexuals; yet I am also still here.

I guess our "Satanistic beliefs" haven't been considered a serious threat.

Absolutely. And I think that I have (inadvertently) put that to the test more than once. There have been some frisky exchanges between myself and other posters that I’m certain the mods got called in on. Usually along the lines of “how dare a lowlife democRAT question ME!”

Well, I can’t resist tasty bait like that....:-)

Dang straight, boss. Nobody would be insane to suggest we "move beyond" it if people were killing 4,000 ten year olds or thirty year olds a day, so why the heck should we do it for this?

To paraphrase Reagan, march out with a banner of bold colors and on to victory!

Don’t you ever again ping me based on a ping list that you hijacked.

In fact, consider this formal notification that you are never to include me in any ping list that you maintain.

Next time you add me to a ping list without my consent I am just going to hit the report abuse button.

You have crossed a line. Don’t do it again.

Nice rant. Are you telling me to ignore the polls?

Polls this far out from the election (primaries aren't until next year, remember?) mean only one thing: Name recognition. Well, name recognition is easy to get (Who knew who Bill Clinton was at this time in 1991?) and it isn't what wins the election.

ROTFLMAO!

You post on a public forum. You get posted to in the same place. You whine and threaten. You are a liberal.

"1. A strong foreign policy/national defense (which was my main issue at the time). 2. Low taxes; low domestic spending. 3. A government that stayed out of the life of individuals

All three of these are, IMO, conservative principles. Now, there always has been a tension, between the third on my list and certain aspects of social religious conservatism.

When you write: As a conservative site, we are pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-liberty, pro-America., you appear to be defining conservatism almost entirely as a matter of being a social/religious conservative."

When abortion was illegal, did government stay out of the lives of individuals?

Well let me help you out with that, America was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, by God-fearing patriots who placed their trust in the Almighty,
Define "God-fearing." That is, how did "God-fearing" impact their beliefs and behaviors?

It's really boffo that you support those three great conservative principles. Now listen carefully, please:

Ripping a small child's limbs off is not conservative. neither is tolerating it, considering it a sacred right equivalent to freedom of speech, or promoting it.

Sorry if that leaves you out, but it is the bottom line.

Democrats aren't conservatives.

A good conservative site is an anti-Democrat site.

However I remember last October when people told me the polls didn’t mean anything and I found out they really did mean something.

No offense, but can you tell the difference between 1 month and 9 months?

They seem to be the strongest supporters, followed by atheist libertarians.

Strnage indeed is the libertarian who supports the GOP's foremost gun grabber.

Pep rallies don’t win elections, my friend.

Neither does running a northeastern lib against a northeastern lib.
