Group launches ad against McCain's joke
By LIBBY QUAID, Associated Press Writer 5 minutes ago
The liberal group MoveOn.org is launching an ad against Republican John McCain (news, bio, voting record) and his joke about bombing Iran, arguing that the nation "can't afford another reckless president."
The group plans to spend about $100,000 to air a commercial on network and some cable television stations in Iowa and New Hampshire, states that hold early contests in the presidential nomination process, spokesman Alex Howe said Friday.
McCain, campaigning Wednesday in South Carolina, answered a question about military action against Iran with the chorus of the surf-rocker classic "Barbara Ann."
"That old, eh, that old Beach Boys song, Bomb Iran," he said. "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, anyway, ah ..."
His audience laughed, but MoveOn.org called the comment dangerous.
"America has lived through six years of a reckless foreign policy," an announcer says in the ad. "We're stuck in Iraq. More than 3,000 Americans are dead. And thousands more wounded.
"Now comes John McCain with his answer to what we should do about Iran. John McCain? We can't afford another reckless president."
McCain defended the joke during a campaign stop in Nevada on Thursday.
"Please, I was talking to some of my old veterans friends," he told reporters in Las Vegas. "My response is, Lighten up and get a life."
Asked if his joke was insensitive, McCain said: "Insensitive to what? The Iranians?"

McCain is starting to look good to me.
“Reckless” is anyone who wants to leave those whackjobs in Iran alone until they have a nuclear weapon. Does anyone really believe they will hestitate to use it? McCain made the mistake of articulating what a lot of people are thinking.
lol....perfect response.
I said this was going to hurt our Party and McCain. And it will. That joke was completely irresponsible and hardly the thing you’d want coming out of the mouth of our President and Commander-in-Chief.
If McCain is with his buddies drinking a beer, retired from the US Senate, who gives a rip. But he’s running for President now, and frankly, we should expect more.
You saw this coming as soon as you saw the clip. *sigh* But it’s the fault of conservatives that we don’t have this same ad running against Harry Reid. And we should.
Move On is doing McCain’s bidding for him. Good stategy from the McCain side......

McCain finally says something funny and they go “ballistic”. Such foolishness! (hey at least we know McCain listens to Rush!)
I was just thinking that...
Maybe he gets it after all?
McCain’s mild “get a life” is at least more than the other Republcans are saying. That’s why Fred Thompson will have a food chance if he pulls all the punches and tells it like it is. People are craving someone to knock the hell out of all this PC BS.
Oh yes. We are tired of our guys playing by Queensbury rules. Time for our guys to grow spines and start acting like they have a pair.
Forgot to say that they have disabled the “comment function” on this YouTube post. So, they know they would be flamed to hell if they allowed comment. Not only are they stupid and dishonest, they are cowards.
I like McCains reaction to the insensitive comments. I disagree with the guy a lot but frankly hes good on security, would probably be as solid as Bush....
Ditto.
I actually posted the Bomb Iran song here a couple of weeks ago. ;)
Maybe he should bomb Moveon.org
“I’ve just signed a law outlawing the Soviet Union, the bombing begins in five minutes.”
Or anything really outrageous...
You are a joke.
McCain is getting the libs angry.
That’s his tactic now after the the kissup he’s given to them over the years.
A desprerate move to the right from a man who would do or say anything to win.
