Are smoked bones considered cooked? Here in the country we get lightly smoked bones and they appear nearly raw and the marrow is semi dry but moist yet and the bones are not brittle. My dogs love them and I have never had any problems feeding them to my boggies. My dogs teeth are perfectly white and in great shape due the bones I feed them. The bones keep them occupied for hours on end. I have been doing it for years without any problems. Of course my dogs are small (11# and 28#) but I never give them small ones... they are usually at least 5" long and probably 1 1/2" across in thickness. It takes them a while to do some major damage to them (they go after the marrow) and usually throw whats left of them away after 2 or 3 days. My little 11 pounder (90% MinPin / 10% Hole Digging Rat Terrorist) has no problem carrying around these big bones. (big for her of course)

Cute dogs! A lot of people give smoked bones to their dogs, they even sell them on sitstay — I think smoked are not dangerous like the cooked bones are... used to be people could get large knuckle bones free from the butchers, but now (at least here) they sell them instead... and I’ve noticed since more and more of us raw-feed it’s not as common to get the necks, gizzards and liver in whole chickens.

Smoked is in between cooked and dried. It’s like jerky thats been jerked at elevated temps, except not as dry. That’s if it’s real smoked. Alot of “smoked” food is just cooked with smoke flavoring added.

I’ve given my lab the dried out lower legs of deer before. She loves it. There’s everything in that...hide, bone, hoof, sinew...and it’s free. You don’t want that in your house though.

Bones do wear their teeth out fast. My dog is 5 or 6 and her molars are worn almost flat like an old dog. But they are sparkly white.
