I would like to know how the melamine got into the gluten in the first place. But of course we’ll never know the real story.

Meanwhile, my dog is eating what I eat: chicken, fish, beef, pork, etc. Is it expensive? Yes, I suppose so. So are vet bills. So is a new dog.

Damned Reds. All those wonderful kitties and puppies on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge now, because of them.

Best guess right now is that melamine is added to increase the -apparent- protien level of pet food additives supplied by China.

Higher Protien = Higher Price

Tonight my dogs had omlettes made of eggs, boneless chicken breast and veggies.

The chemical, used to make plastics, is allowed as a fertilizer in Asia. The ingredients at the center of the recall — wheat gluten and now rice protein concentrate — were both imported from China.

Perhaps melamine “grows” into the grains.
