Authorities put all 36 schools in 12 Northern California school districts under lockdown Thursday as police searched for a man who claimed he was planning an armed attack that would make Virginia Tech look mild.
Sutter County sheriffs officers were looking for Jeffery Thomas Carney, 28, a transient. Undersheriff J. Paul Parker told MSNBC-TV that Carney telephoned his pastor and and family members Wednesday night to say he had an automatic weapon, improvised explosive devices and poison.
Sheriffs officials said Carney made no specific threat to any particular place. But because of the reference to the massacre of 32 students and professors Monday at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, principals at all 36 of the schools in the countys 12 school districts shut down their campuses and locked students in for safety, Assistant Superintendent Linda Protine said.

And many students will now go out and get Ismail-Ax tatoos.
If I was in charge of a network, I’d tell the news division they can only run photos like Cho’s if they had a caption like “Yes: the shooter had a small penis”, “probable virgin” or “loser” plastered over them. THAT might help discourage copycats.

I don’t think you can narrow this to NBC. All the networks were showing this creep. I wish you we could do a massive search of the FArchives and replaces his images with those of the murdered Israeli Proffesor.
I don’t think we gained anything by listening to this speech by a psychotic.
I hope they find him soon. Schools may not even be his target.
If he would have sent his package to O’Reilly or Geraldo at Fox News the pictures and video would have never been broadcast. /sarcasm
I hope they find him soon. Schools may not even be his target.
NBC was the first to air, but certainly not the only.
For the record, I did watch allot of the NBC coverage. Perhaps I shouldn’t have but based on the ratings, I wasn’t alone.
But to be fair, the videos are everywhere, google, youtube, etc and has gotten millions of viewers.
NBC or not, Cho’s video would have been very well traveled by now.
There were copycat threats before NBC aired the footage and there would’ve continued to be some even if they didn’t air it.
From what I’ve heard on the radio here the guy is a well known meth-head. Claims to have an ak-47, IEDs, poison and wants to commit suicide by cop.
If I was in charge of a network, Id tell the news division they can only run photos like Chos if they had a caption like Yes: the shooter had a small penis,
_____________
Too funny.
Perhaps a thread listing all the things we should say, kind of a like a “caption so and so” thread.
Putting blame on NBC is like blaming the VTech police.
I blame the crazy people, myself.
My son is a detective for a college police department. He said they are getting numerous calls and threats.
When they catch the transient they’ll probably find he was just asking for some change.
But seriously, they need to make an example of this guy, but in Kalifornia they’ll probably just give him a good talking to and send him on his way.
Mother says wanted man 'strung out on meth' Jeffery Thomas Carney's mother told The Bee Thursday morning in an exclusive interview that her son has been "strung out on meth" for the past four months and has told his pastor that "if (the police) found him, he was going to kill himself and take out as many of them as possible."...(
I was thinking the dead loser was probably impotent. I mean, thats one of the only reasons I can think of for getting so pissed off. (Kidding!)
The VTech police didnt release that stuff...NBC did.
Or you think the suspect wiped his hard drives on the way back from the post office? or triple wiped them?
I haven’t watched any tv. I don’t know if I want to right now. That said though , we can’t have it both ways. Many were furious with how the media selectively reported on 911. Now people are saying this shouldn’t be put out. I say, don’t make a series. Forget the background music and just put it on a web site for whoever wants to view it.
