MONCKS CORNER, S.C. --A young mother who smothered her crying 9-month-old twin boys with a pillow and then went back to sleep was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Lakeia White, 20, pleaded guilty but mentally ill Wednesday to two counts of homicide by child abuse. She admitted putting a pillow over her sons Devion and Trevon Wilson on Oct. 11 to settle them down.

The judge said White will likely end up serving eight years if she stays out of trouble in prison.
1. "Mental illness" is a crock when it comes to guilt. It, like consumption of alcohol, should not even exist as a mitigating circumstance in any legal capacity. I've read all of the bleeding-heart "reasons" for the status quo, and find them laughable.
2. She was given such a pathetic sentence for another reason - the (sub?)conscious ascription of lower value to a younger life. A truly sick symptom of the depth of society's moral decline.
I know a woman who did the right thing wwhen she had thoughts of this.
Took the baby to her parents house and checked herself into the local mental ward.
Took time but 5 years later she is better and her child is 5 and most importantly alive.
7 months old? Why they haven’t even had the “fetus” stamp fade off their bottoms. Isn’t that right Justice Ginsberg?

She should never be allowed near a sperm donor (or baster) again.
I disagree dearheart, she denied those kids of every pleasure and good thing life had to offer. I think denying her the right to any future sensation (pleasurable or otherwise) to be fair play.
I don't care if she's sick or misunderstood or the boogeyman made her do it. If you kill a child willfully and with malice, (not to mention the callousness of just rolling over and going back to sleep) you are not fit for this world and she should be standing before God THIS instant so he can pronounce HIS judgment upon her. Something tells me that God's judgment on her will be much tougher to deal with than the courts.
The only pleasure I take is in knowing that eventually, she's got that judgment coming to her. My only regret is that she's not there today.
Only 10 years for killing two babies! God help us all.
Circuit Judge Roger Young is the reason why she got ten years. He could’ve given her 20 but went lenient on her. What kind of judge goes for sob stories and ignores facts.
I’m tired of the clergy playing the fool in these cases. They beg the judge for leniency, what happened to God’s laws? They should at least be looking at the fact this woman murdered her two children and should pay for her crime. there is this idea out there that God is an all forgiving patsy and he doesn’t feel justice is necessary. I doubt God turns his back on the victims as our justice system does at times.
In ten years she’ll be 30, still of child bearing age.
And the next time she murders her child(ren) this idiotic judge should be locked up with her.
If that happens, then me and you have a date to start a ruckus and see that judge go back to jail with her! :-)
