I have two cockers and they’re both overweight. What do you mean by ‘raw’? And where do you get it?

One benefit of the raw or BARF diet is that your dogs will have more energy and burn more calories. Our 5 dogs are all on a raw food diet and they are in great health. Most commercially fed dogs are overweight. I think this is because the grains in commercial dry food is not suited for the canine’s metabolism. With canned food it is more likely a matter of overfeeding. Dogs will always eat if given the opportunity unless they are ill. So know your dog’s weight and feed the recommended percentage. Not how much your dogs CLAIM they need.

Those big brown eyes make suckers of us all.

Cockers love a raw diet.. just that raw meat with bone in -- whole or ground. There is a great Natural Cocker list at yahoo where a lot of us could help you through this... but your cockers will never be healthier than if you make the switch.

A lot of people feed chicken necks, backs, wings, etc., along with some organ meats and pureed vegetables. I started that way. Now I don't feed any chicken, I purchase everything from a family farm in Pennsylvania called Hare-today -- they have a website... for people just starting out Natures' Variety and Natures logic both makes a prepared raw you can feed -- comes in one-ounce cubes and you feed 2 - 3% of what the dogs SHOULD weight each day -- watch them slim down. You can find both brands and a few more raw brands at onlynaturalpets.com...

If you are interested in the cocker list email me and I'll give you the link. BTW, how old is your cockers?
