He bought the guns legally, one month apart, which is as soon as he could under Virginia law (the .22 on 9 February, the 9mm on 9 March). But...IF that CNN report is correct, and a judge found him mentally ill (or incompetent?), then that changes things. From what other FReepers have posted, the ATF form has a question on it to the effect of “Have you ever been found mentally incompetent or been committed to an institution?” If that CNN report is right, then he must’ve lied on that form and the background check missed it somehow. But that’s a big “if.”

The only legislation that will come of this will be tougher reporting and checking for mental health disqualification. Of course, someone who checks in to a facility feeling depressed should not be denied the right to self-defense, but might need to get a doctor to sign off before getting off the do-not-sell-list.

Of course, under Rudy or Hillary, they will define us “gun-nuts” as mentally ill, so they can stop us or anyone from buying a gun (remember Catch-22?)
