WELCOME NASCAR FANS
|
I got around 225 points. Could have been much worse.
Thanks for posting the thread for this weekend Gal.
And to everyone else thanks for joining in...
Or maybe a Vancouver-Ottowa final just to see how low the ratings can go. LOL!
Tar Smokers - 1-3-12-21 = 315
Yep. A couple of classy guys.
I don’t get what Smoke was upset about. He declined an interview.
Thanks for hosting and for the caps!
Nice of Junior to congratulate Gordon. Classy!
Good point.
Im not sure I like him carrying the 3 flag around just because he beats Earnhardt Srs record.
___
Earnhardt kind of adopted Gordon as the heir to the throne, he knew they were the 2 best pure drivers.
I was rooting for Jr. for a while but once he said everyone needs to see Farenheit 9/11 by Michael Moore I was done with him. I root for Gordon now.
Good job!
I pulled 280 points somehow .. scriggs gave me a whole 9 points.. lol
snip~ With his fans, he is as much a rock star as a racer. But the fact is, hes just like them. If I wasnt racing, this is exactly what Id be doing, says Earnhardt Jr. Id be running around here somewhere laid up in one of these pools. Looks like a good time, to me. ...I was going to races as a little kid. Im a fan, first.
NASCAR fans are a special crowd, because they reflect the sports southern roots.
Are NASCAR fans Republicans? Yeah, he says. Are they white? Majority. Its changing more and more, says Earnhardt Jr. But you still go to the races and you still see the rebel flags in the infield. You still see, you know, the aggressive Southeast a little bit at the racetrack. ...You know, the guy that still flies his rebel flag pretty proudly.
But Earnhardt Jr. says hes not like that: It never really was me.
Politically, Junior does side with a voting block known as NASCAR dads. Hes a Republican and he supports George W. Bush. Yet, he took his crew to see Michael Moores movie, Fahrenheit 9/11. Why?
I like hearing both sides of the argument. I thought the movie was well done. But my dad was a Republican, and I'm a Republican, and so [its] not that I came out of there going, I ain't voting for Bush again, says Earnhardt Jr. That didn't happen, and I didn't expect that to happen. I just wanted to go and enjoy the movie. Because I knew Michael Moore would try to push a few buttons. And I just wanted to see how hard he mashed them.
By the way, he doesn't spend 17 hours a day on political forums like this to know the uproar that movie made. He's a racer and that is his world, so I'm sure there was a curiosity involved. There isn't a law against knowing what the other side says is there? Do we now chastise people for wanting to know the other side of a story no matter how evil or vile it is? I can't even begin to list all the charity work he has done, the list is long and the money is big. He even attends charity races just to drop the flag because Budweiser will not let him race.
Here's the latest charity announcement........
Junior wraps cars to benefit charity By Monte Dutton/Freedom News Service April 13, 2007 - 10:42PM
JUSTIN, Texas Due to his popularity, novel paint schemes mean more when they adorn the No. 8 Chevrolet of Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Even Earnhardt said Friday that they dont make much difference unless theres some substance to them.
In the Coca-Cola 600 at Lowes Motor Speedway on May 27, Earnhardt will carry a Desert Camo scheme, and for the Pepsi 400 on July 7 at Daytona, the car will be decorated in a red, white and blue Stars & Stripes motif. Proceeds from the sale of die-cast models will benefit surviving dependents of deceased Special Operations soldiers through the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
You can Google for more if you are interested.
Let's not forget the way he lives his life with the highest moral standards, supporting his family and friends. Caring for strangers and also being a stand up guy at the track. You can even ask Jeff Gordon all about that I'm sure he will be happy to tell you about this young man and how his peers admire him.
Speaking of Jeff Gordon and admiring peers and all...did any reporter ever get Tony Stewart’s thoughts on the end of the race? I’m sure he had an opinion! lol
Thinking of how we were speaking of JPM last night, I woke up this morning to check my IP site which is a FREE Myspace type place for Nascar fans. This is put up by Jr for all of us with his money so we can have fun, post as many pics as we want, make new friends and have a website of our own etc.
There are other drivers that belong to that site too. Much to my surprise this morning I had a new friend and I didn’t even invite him.............it was JPM!! LOL I don’t know how I was chosen but there he was. :) He just joined.
He left not wanting to comment, I’m not sure why. Many have speculated but I will wait for his answer. :)
I think I know but.......
Drivers thoughts on the COT.........
Jr~
“I could see the leaders almost the whole race, and it was like we all were just out there running the exact same lap times. It was a parade. I was bored. No one could pass anybody else - we were all equal it seemed. No one has really figured out how to make the Car of Tomorrow turn in the center of the corners- and we struggled with that all night. For us, it was push, push, push... plow, plow, plow... (Teammate) Martin (Truex Jr.) could put his front tires down on the apron to make his car turn, but I never even came close. My car wouldn’t even look down there. I was asking it to - ‘c’mon! Just get me to the apron. Just give me a peak...’ but I couldn’t get it to cooperate.
************************
Denny Hamlin~ was able to pass a lot of cars at Phoenix after getting a speeding penalty that forced him to restart at the end of the longest line on a restart on lap 103. But Hamlin still said passing was too difficult.
“You know, it’s hard for me to complain, and people will say, ‘But you went from the back to the front,’” Hamlin said. “But, yeah, it took us 300 laps to do it when it shouldn’t have. Our car was just that much better than everyone else’s. It shouldn’t have taken that long.”
Part of the problem: The lack of front downforce.
“These cars have half as much front downforce,” Hamlin said. “So the car already doesn’t have front grip. Then you have a car that’s punching a bigger hole in front of it, that means even less air gets to the front end.
“There were instances out there where I would be a half a second faster than a guy. I would get within 10 car lengths and automatically be slower. And that was just really frustrating. As a driver, you know, there’s just not a whole lot we can do as drivers. We’re at the mercy of track position right now.”
Biffle~
Biffle wasn’t optimistic the car could be improved, either.
“The thing is, there’s only so much you can do,” Biffle said. “We’re painted inside this box and we can only do so much. We’ve only got so much travel, and then we’re solid on the bump stop, so we have to manipulate how we hit that bump stop, how it works, and how we get our front bar.
“What it does, it gets down in the corner, and slides the tires. You can see: Everybody’s doing the same thing. Everybody’s juke, juke, juking the throttle, to try and turn it with the back, and then scrape off the corner, and that’s all we did all night. I’m sure if we would’ve gotten track position, we would’ve just stayed right there.”
Stremme~
“You go in the corner and you try to stop from wrecking and the splitter is dragging the ground and you can’t stop,” Stremme said. “The 6 just spun and there was nothing I could do. I was on the brakes, but it was just a mess.”
And finally a quote from Mark Martin “We’re like our soldiers, we never give up”
All this car of tomorrow ranting is starting to bug me. It’s a race car, so race it and shut up.
Sorry ta see ya have’n to set the record straight, once again.
Hate to say it, but the last game Saturday night, rivaled the race for excitement.
"Speedway races are such a crapshoot."
lol
Who spends 17 hours a day on a political forum? I get 8 hours of sleep before I freep. LOL! Thanks for taking the time to tell the truth about Junebug.
