Strangely, I was working at Allen Wood Steel, in swedeland, Pa, back in the 70s, when a similar event occurred, killed many workers at one of the blast furnances who were attempting to work on a leak in the cinder notch.

I had declined the offer to work on that particular rigging crew that night, simply because I knew of the problem.

Metal droplets dance on the skin like water tossed in a hot frying pan. - Where they go there is no flesh left.

I put the blame for the demise of our heavy industries squarely on the unions. - Even then I knew that steel couldn’t survive in this country under the union demands.

And it didn’t.

Yup. and it destroys the nerve ending immediatly. generally at temps like that there is no pain. I have a scar on my knee from when I was a welder. It went to the bone. I never knew it happened till I was showering that night and found the wound

Amen! And how many other industries have the unions ruined?

“Strangely, I was working at Allen Wood Steel, in swedeland, Pa,...”

I know a guy who worked in a steel mill not far from the Ohio/Pa border who got drenched with steel on his arm. Lost all the muscle but survived. Now there is only one steel mill left in the “Steel Valley”.
