House Speaker Nancy Pelosi yesterday delayed appointing lawmakers to finish a war-funding bill, putting off the emergency legislation for the second day since returning from the House's two-week spring break.
Mrs. Pelosi, California Democrat, did not name conferees Monday because severe storms slowed some East Coast lawmakers' returns to Washington and because some lawmakers attended Virginia Tech services for the shooting victims, her office said.
"We need the conferees in order to make progress on the bill," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who will join Mrs. Pelosi and other congressional leaders at a White House meeting with President Bush today.
Patience also wore thin among Senate Democrats assigned two weeks ago to the conference committee that will reconcile differences between the House and Senate versions of the $100 billion bill.
"We are going to be talking about that and trying to put some pressure on bringing that [conference committee] about," Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, Hawaii Democrat and member of the conference committee, said on his way to the party's weekly policy luncheon.
"I'm hoping we can do that sooner because it is something that we need to decide," said Mr. Inouye, chairman of the Appropriations defense subcommittee.

That's real fine, San Fran Nan, put the war and our troops on hold because of the weather and services. This is pathetic!

I am sure she just is really waiting so she can hold this over Pres. Bush’s head tomorrow during the meeting..that SHE has the power to keep the bill from him..so he can veto it.
She has become Queen doncha know..and Pres. Bush is not her boss!!
One way to cut off funding for the war is to stall the passage of war funding bills. It accomplishes the same purpose passing a bill the cuts off the funds.
Leave it to Gamma Nan to put the War on hold
That’s exactly what she’s doing and I honestly believe she’s so stupid she doesn’t realize she’s playing with the lives of our military.
This woman is dense and a danger to our country.
She is dangerous...but, I am sure Oprah loves her.
You’re correct but if she takes this path it’ll be the same as taking the vote to cut the funds and it’ll bite them in ‘08, IMO.
She’s waiting till the DBM gets done with the Virginia Teach
story. She wants to make sure her and the party are in the total spot light.
Another big problem with this delay is it sends the wrong message to Iran at a critical time in history when we have to take a strong stand against Iranian nuclear weapons. This would be a good time for Pelosi to resign and retire and let someone be Speaker who at least has some sense for national security strategy. If Pelosi and Reid continue to undermine our foreign policy, that could lead to disastrous results within a few years and force Israel into a preemptive nuclear attack on Iran. I get the feeling Pelosi would condemn a preemptive attack by Israel against Iran, and then if Israel doesn’t attack she would uselessly condemn an Iranian nuclear attack on Israel after it happens (while feeling sincere sorrow for the destruction of Israel.)
I think he’s saying that the Dems are trying not to look cooperative with Bush, to shore up their support among the far-left moonbats.
The dems..have already said that when Pres. Bush vetos the bill, it will be HE that is denying the funds to the troops, not them.
That is how this is scripted...now, let’s see if ANY GOP or media point out how “tactical” that was.
It’s pretty evident to me that she’s able to passably wheel and deal in politics with her corrupt cronies but when it comes to our country, our military and foreign relations she just fell off the turnip truck. I seriously don’t know that we can survive her.
The kicker is that everyone knows her and her party’s tactics and we sit back and let them get away with out and out lies and shams like what is going on right now. It gets awful disgusting.
I don’t think that will work for the Dems, because the msm will have to report the reason for the veto—the language about a surrender date next year. That surrender date will then become the focus of public debate. I tell ya, this is dangerous stuff the loony left is playing with here. They want to send exactly the wrong message to the Iranian mullahs at a critical time in world history. This kind of weak leadership could ultimately lead to an Iranian nuclear arsenal and the destruction of America or Europe some day. I’m sure the Israeli leadership and our friends in the ME are very concerned about the short-sighted politically motivated behavior of congressional democrats.
In the foreign policy arena, Pelosi is serious bad news for America. She’s an imbecile at foreign policy and national security, and this would be an opportune time for her to retire and move back to SF for good.
Listening to Schumer and Reid talk about picking up Senate seats, they sound like they think this is just a political football game, and there’s really nothing serious going on in Iran at this time.
Of course talking about global warming will still go on.
