Hmmm....no mention of out-of-wedlock births and broken / single-parent families, no mention of Justice Department statistics showing crime rates as opposed to only citing incarceration rates....one could go on and on finding faults with this 'report'.   This document is remarkable not for the statements that it makes but for the huge chasms of essential subject matter that it studiously avoids or sidesteps.

If a 'report' such as this is used as a template for public policy, black Americans will continue to suffer the same fates that they have for the past fifty-odd years.

One surprisingly lucid suggestion is included, however:

The report suggested that all-male schools with a strong emphasis on mentoring could help keep black boys "focused on their education and away from distractions that could lead them down the wrong paths."

The last time I checked, Conservatives have been shouting the praises of separating boys and girls in schools for decades or more.

3. Stay in school and learn an economically viable skill.

FINALLY pinging this one out. Okay, anyone who thinks the "traditional" (aka "real") family doesn't matter, or is out dated, just take a look at this article and the thread. It's really quite simple. Destroy the family and voila! Children become feral and then grow up feral. And then THEY have feral children. How many lives destroyed?

Well we knew they'd be calling for more federal funding for something! The comment about parents, however, is a good thing. Now if they can only work on the much too high levels of unmarried women having babies, and encouraging young men to WORK instead of trying to all be gansgsta rappers or pro-athletes.

It seems to me that the more these kids are in government school the worse they get.I wonder how many KIPP school attendees find themselves in jail?

All these poor black men made a choice. They chose to sell crack and shoot each other on a daily basis. They choose to make sh!t holes out of their towns and cities. Still the victim. Need someone to take care of the situation, provide training, jobs, mentoring. Government is the only answer, and oh, by the way, parents should also take a more active interest. The sad part of this is the number of single parent mothers raising children, mothers who have never had a husband to help with the child rearing.
