According to his roomate(see article in NY Times) this guy was a loner to the point of avoiding all eye contact. I can’t believe he ever had a girlfriend in the normal sense. I bet this poor girl said a few kinds words to him and thus became an object of obsession.

That makes sense. Or she may have been kind to him. Her friends say she was very friendly and outgoing.

AND, she may have dated him and gone to functions with him, as a nice and outgoing girl That’s the *connection* they would have had — and the reason he would have been able to get into the dorm and talk with her — which resulted in an “argument”.

If there was *no basis* for being there at all, then the girl could have simply told the RA that he doesn’t belong her and he needs to get out of here. But, no — he “mediated” the argument and attempted to quell it.
